LED and OLED TVs

Just bought a Samsung S95D and the TV  does not reliably turn on through HDMI CEC ... I've tried using an Apple TV and a Playstation 5, both of which are set to turn the TV on through HDMI CEC and have the appropriate cables to do so (i.e. both of these devices turned my previous Samsung Q90T on without any issues prior to this TV).

This seems to be an issue  when the TV is off for more than an hour ... if the TV was just recently turned off (e.g. in the past hour), the Apple TV and the Playstation 5 are both able to turn the TV on. Anything more than an hour, the TV does not turn on successfully through these two devices

Just bought the new ATV device ..= 4K, 3rd Generation.

Alteady have the hi res HDMI 2.1 cable that Belkin makes for Apple.

so, the hardware is all Apple.

Read my post on top about IR vs CEC control of the “on” button on the new silver Siri Remote

  • Here is my proposed solution =

Ask the Apple engineers to Change the “On” small button on top right of Siri Remote to IR wake-up, not CEC = exactly like the Samsung Remote (which does work)

The reasons why the above works are:

[1] when the Samsung is off for a long time, it goes into “deep sleep” in which case, pressing the “ On” will not do anything when set to CEC wake-up.  However, when set to IR wake-up, it will wake up the TV like the Samsung Remote.

[2] given (1) and the resultant waking up of the TV, the TV setting = CEC will then turn on the ATV device = BINGO.

SO, Change the “On” small button on top right of Siri Remote to IR wake-up, not CEC

When that’s done, no matter how long the TV has been off, it will turn on.
