Samsung Q990D - Sometimes no audio on power on

Samsung Q990D connected to LG C1 display via eARC. Problem has presented itself with both Apple TV and Sky Stream box (and indeed internal apps on the C1).

Have tried 3 different cables on the eARC.

1/5 - 1/10 times the soundbar will power on with the TV as normal, be volume adjustable on the display via the TV, however will have no sound. This continues if I try and cast to the soundbar, play via bluetooth etc, so presumably is not a format issue from the TV.

To resolve the issue, I need to power off and power on the bar using the remote, at which point it works.

Have tried a reset to defaults. Is anyone else having this issue and is there a resolution? On FW 1016.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out! This does sound kinda strange with your soundbar not having sound all the time. I would recommend attem, ping a factory reset on the soundbar. To do that, please try the following below,

1. Turn on the soundbar.

2. Press and hold the power button on the soundbar for approximately 10 seconds.

3. Release the button when you see "INT" displayed on the soundbar or observe a blinking red light.
4. Wait for the soundbar to restart and complete the reset process.

I can confirm factory resetting does not work.  A simple google search shows this being a widespread issue.

In my case My Q990D is hooked to my LG c4 TV via eArc.  When I power on the TV with LG remote the bar does turn on; however, most times there is no sound.  You have to use the Smasung Q990D remote and cycle the inputs and eventually it will start playing the audio.

I find this unacceptable and appears to happen to anyone not using a Samsung TV.  Any ideas?  Bothe Sound Bar and TV are on latest firmware; I am using the HDMI cable supplied with the bar and the TV has CEC enable and whether I choose pass through, or auto, it makes no difference.

Any suggestions are welcome.  This is frustrating.

It happens using my Samsung TV too! It's a 2024 Q95D TV,  so same series.

Power cycle does the trick, but very annoying!

Yes, this has been happening to me too with my brand new Q990D and a fairly new LG QNED 55". Works fine for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden I go to power on the TV and soundbar, and no sound comes out of the Q990D. Then the Q990D starts acting weird, such as not being able to select the source input, or if it does let me select the eARC input, it switches to another HDMI port after a few seconds. I've updated the firmware on both the soundbar and the TV, unplugged everything (power AND HDMI cable), even bought a new hi speed HDMI cable. Usually after doing all of that and powering everything back on, it will work for another couple of weeks, then I have to do it all over again. This is a major pain when you have to keep pulling down your soundbar and getting behind the TV to unplug cables. Seems like a bug somewhere.

If none of the troubleshooting is helping, the only other option would be service. Depending on your warrant, you will have a few options.

- If your unit was recently purchased, you can check with your retailer on their return/exchange processes.
- If you have an extended warranty you can reach out to them to have service set up.
- If you're within the one year warranty, you can Private message me or one of our moderators or you can call in directly at 1-800- 726-7864 with your full model and serial number to have service setup
- If you're OUT of warranty, you can use this link below to find a service center in your area.
