What is up with YouTube?

An hour of watching a video and 20% battery drain! Think this is a known issue for Google to address or is it also something on Samsung's camp as well?

What's your experience?

Did you force stop the YouTube app and then disable it, or just disable it?  You should force stop it and then disable it and for good measure, delete the app cache and data, then try again.  I don't use YouTube for anything other than watching short videos found on Facebook, and I do not allow it to open the app.  Perhaps watching your videos from a web browser may be the answer to your battery drain.

Yep, force stop, clear cache and data, disabled, and it still won't allow YouTube to be overwritten. It says something along the lines of it being an invalid package. It is what it is, I'll just have to hope and pray that it gets fixed at some point. And I appreciate the suggestion of using the web browser, but it's just not convenient for me based on how much I listen to/watch while at work and home. I do appreciate the advice tho!

It is possible the apk file is corrupted. Either try downloading it again, or choosing a different file. From what I hear, you have to make sure it's the right file for your device.

Different file and still the same issue. I just love how I can't have agency over my own phone and the software thats on it. Freedom and customization were pretty much the whole reason I've stuck with Android ever since my Galaxy S2. Is what it is I suppose. 1747436206273.jpg

The only thing I can suggest until they fix the power issue would be to access YT through a web browser and not allow it to open the app. It's possible it's the app programming that's the culprit and using the browser could prevent the drain. I could also be wrong, but it's certainly worth a try, even if inconvenient

Since the uninstall /downgrade to YT versuon 19.x the battery drain issue seems to be resolved. 6.7% battery usage for 1.47 hours vs the previous, 20% for 1 hour of viewing, indicates it is the later versions, 20.x that are at fault. I will keep the current version and see if this behavior is consistent. 1747402662569.jpg

I did an uninstall for YouTube from the play store on my S25 Plus. It didn't remove the app from my phone but it reverted back to 19.2 something or other. I hope that helps with the heating issues.

YT is a system app now or acts like one.
Best you can do is uninstall, disable, clear cache and data.
This brings it back to the version that was pre-installed on your device.
Then enable the app, but don't update it.

S25 plus here. I did the exact same thing you did.
And using AccuBattery and Battery Guru I'm seeing a vast Improvement. As in all back to normal. Granted it's only been a day and a half. But temperatures are not rising and usage is minimal.
Using YouTube temperature rises to almost 105 with the current version of YouTube. After doing what you did and reverting back to 19.2 temperature drop down to 83. So this still doesn't definitively tell us if it's YouTube, Android or anything else. But it's better than it was. I do not do automatic updates so I hope I remember to not update YouTube.

You have one app that's causing a problem. You took steps to roll back the version. The problem abated. It very much tells you it's a YT issue. Which would still make it a Google issue, since Google makes both YT and Android. What it does not makie it is a Samsung issue.
