Galaxy S24At night, the phone is active. It does backup, looks for app updates and applies those updates. If the phone is on, it's never idle even if you are not actively using it.

Galaxy S24They offer huge trade in deals right after the one year mark because that's when they introduce the new models so, naturally, they offer inducements to trade up. They are in business to sell devices. No one forces you to buy a new device if you like the device you already have. You don't like Samsung data mining? How do you think that's going to improve with a Chinese phone? If you don't want the manufacturers of your phones to data mine or sell your information, do not own any technology. They all do it. When you have ANY electronic device, your privacy is an illusion. When you accept the TOS, you are agreeing to it. You can opt out of data selling, but it is a deliberately inconvenient process (except, perhaps, in California).
I don't know what you do with your phones, but I do not know how your batteries do not last for more than 2 years. I have a Samsung phone going on 8 years now with the battery still fully functional. Many people on here are also using phones that are more than 2 years old with fully functioning batteries. So, if you have phones with batteries that don't last that long, it an issue with *you* and the way you use/treat *your* device.

Galaxy S24Insane idle drain? Phones are never idle. When you are not actively using it, Samsung phones, at least, do stuff in the background, like updates, backup and optimization. Not trying to hide it? I don't think they ever attempted to hide it, as a matter of fact, I believe it actually states it somewhere that it does that. Also, some of the third party apps that you, yourself, voluntarily downloaded do a lot of work in the background. YouTube, for example, constantly searches for new content, as do most streaming apps. For these apps you have to check the battery usage settings and utilize the battery optimization settings and/or put them to sleep so that they do not run in the background.
