Galaxy S24

My Galaxy s24 updated overnight, and now there is a number in a circle appearing in the upper right hand corner of the home screen. I would like to get rid of it, but I'm not sure what it is indicating? It's the "93" on this screenshot.

It's the battery percentage. Go to settings>battery , there's an option there to turn it off.

It isn't the battery percentage. Currently it shows a 61 in a white circle and the 1 is shaded.

That is the battery icon.  The "oval" fills with the battery percentage so 100% is totally white, and 61% is 61% filled, causing the 1 to fall on the empty portion.

Unfortunately, it is barely readable, compared to the old style.
