Tab S7 - Turn off screen when casting through HDMI?

I have my Tab S7 connected to TV via USB-C to HDMI. Wireless is out as theres too much of a lag. Since there's only one port, there's no way to keep the Tab charged/charging while using HDMI. Because of this, the battery drains especially fast since the screen stays on the entire time. I've searched every setting and preference I can find, with and without the HDMI plugged in, but I can't find a way to turn screen off while using HDMI. Is there really no way to have the screen off while HDMI is plugged in?

Also, are there any adapters that plug into USB-C, but allow a charging connection and 1 or more connections like USB-C to HDMI? I can't find anything.

Search for the bare minimum, if you want a USB c hub with power and HDMI then "USB-c hub power HDMI"

Not sure if you also need 1gE but I'm happy with this setup for my Tab S8U and DeX

What I'm saying is, make the change I mentioned above in Settings, plug our cable into the TV and start DeX on the tablet.  The TV should have a DeX desktop and the tablet Androd.

Now, from the DeX desktop start your streaming app.  On the tablet either wait for it to time out or tap the power button to turn off the screen.

Sorry, I wasn't making sense. The Tablet screen does switch to the Touchpad mode, with the TV displaying the Dex Screen. The Tablet screen just won't turn off. Its a lot better I guess  for the sake of saving power. But I really don't like the Dex mode/app in the first place. Absolutely no way to achieve this with Tablet in regular (non-Dex) mode? Apps freeze a LOT. For instance, the reason I'm wanting this HDMI setup in this instance, is to use RetroArch emulators. When I run the app while in Dex mode, the window controls for the app (Minimize window, Max, close app) don't show up. This is an issue with the tablet/Dex, not the device I'm trying to stream to (project? Cast? mirror?), and definitely not limited to an app like RetroArch. The cursor changes when hovering where the controls should be. But when I click in the top part of the app window to (lets say) maximize screen, regardless of where I'm clicking in the top border of the app window, the window closes. In other words, when I click an area where there should be no buttons (min, max, close) it still minimizes the app. When I try to bring the app back up, the app is just a dark screen, and it freezes/crashes.

I really don't want to use Dex.

So why not just go on Amazon and buy a USB c hub with Hdmi and power pass through like this Anker.  Then you can keep your tablet powered while using it with the TV

In my OP, I listed 2 goals... first to turn off screen. second to have an adapter that allows me to charge so that the screen/power thing wasn't an issue. Tom2055 had suggested that exact adapter you just listed. I did purchase it and followed up with Tom20155 in the same post as my reply to you:

"2. tom2055 The adapter thing wont work out I guess. Got that Anker one and Lag is too bad. The lag is just as bad as if I were wireless screen-casting."

This was especially bad because I'm needing it for Emulation. Video feed is something like .3-.5 seconds off. Huge when you want Lolo to move a block at just the right time, mario to jump over a turtle shell, or Chun-Li to kick Guile in the face. ^_^

Hmm, do you see this lag just using a mouse?  I don't.  I don't use the Anker hub but I do use one it it seems to be lag less, but I'm not a game player.  I wonder if that is just the Anker model??

two things in regards to the screen-off+TouchPad mode

It all changed with the newest Android 12 or 11.

Initially you could even switch to TouchPad mode (where the screen acts as a giant touchpad) or turn the screen off and the mirroring would still continue.

with the arrival of the new android OS version however
a) the touch pad mode doesn't exist anywhere anymore

b) you see exactly whats on the tablet regardless you enable dex or not

1) if the screen is turned off, so will the casting

2) before the OS update you could have apps running on the tablet screen and the dex only got applied to the outputted screen, and the tablet screen was running separate

despite lots of googling i haven't been able to find a good solution back then to this issue and imho it's a major step back in terms of usability. However being as huge company as Samsung is, i doubt these opinions will have any impact on the future development of the UI/devices.

i think when these features got removed Samsung wasn't unaware of it but it was decided and ignored and or depending the complexity of future workarounds was postponed etc..

although it is possible that these functions eventually will return with a future update when you have a multihundred/thousand+ pound device  having to wait more than a year for any solution doesn't feel fast when the average life a tablet is 2-3 years before they break or become obsolete...
