WHAT CAUSED THIS?

LED and OLED TVs

We have a curved 55" Samsung TV, purchased in 2020. I was watching old TV episodes of Dark Shadows on Tubi late evening, and because the videos are not meant for wide screen television, the TV image is centered, leaving about a 7" wide, vertical black band on each side of the image. OK, this is where it got weird... As I was watching, a round white light, the size of a baseball, with a very, very faint, hardly discernible gray center, appeared on the left black band. I thought, "O-kayyyyyy... what the heck is this?" I stared at it, then it vanished. There was no lamp reflection on the TV screen and my eyesight is good. What could have caused this? Thanks!

You've probably noticed how Direct LED local dimming works: one LED is on and neighboring LEDs are off.

I asked Copilot to explain your reply. No. I had no idea as to how it worked. Thanks for your reply.
