Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24I've owned Samsung devices since the Note 2. Many years ago, Samsung removed the notification LED, which most of us hated the removal of. I like to have my phone silent most of the time, free from annoying noises, allowing the notification on the AOD screen and subsequently the notification light to tell me I have a notification waiting.
This removal of the notification LED light then caused apps like AODnotify to be developed, which gave us customizable notifications and different light effects on the AOD screen. I've used this app for the past 4-5 years on previous Samsung devices for notifications. But now on the S24 series, Samsung has removed the AOD brightness slider and instead uses auto-brightness for the AOD. Even despite having auto-brightness disabled. This renders that app and the AOD screen useless.
AOD notifications are too dim. Way too dim that they are useless at this point because they almost cannot be seen. I am not in well-lit lighting situations for the screen to be brightened by light. This makes the S24 series useless to me at this point, if I can't see my notifications. To remove a feature or setting on the most customizable operating system (opposite of Apple) is taking us in the wrong direction.
There are already several posts on this forum and other forums asking for this setting to be brought back. I am now considering not keeping my S24 Ultra, and currently looking at other options since I can't customize and use my device how I want to. Please bring the AOD brightness slider back. There's zero reason to remove customization settings.

Galaxy S24Like the other member said, battery protection only concerns charging the phone. Not reducing battery usage. But I went ahead and humored you anyway and disabled battery protection, and it had no effect on AOD brightness as expected.

Galaxy S24I am extremely thankful for the recent update Samsung deployed a few weeks ago in addressing the "Natural" color palette tones that were forced on us without giving us our original vivid color palette that we've been used to over the past 10 years. Very happy with the slider and I thank Samsung for addressing this.
However, we are still missing our AOD color icon notifications and our AOD brightness slider. Why were these taken away from us on this Samsung S24 series of phones? That is a severe downgrade in the UI. Now the AOD color icon notifications are all white making them all appear the same. Nobody asked for this. Why is Samsung making these type of downgrade changes? Can we get a fix for this in the software update?? Everyone is asking for this and Goodlock Lockstar is not a solution as it doesnt even work and apply AOD color icon notifications.

Galaxy S24There are a lot of posts about this all over many forums, asking for AOD brightness to be brought back. I don't want to keep this phone if we can adjust the AOD brightness as I heavily rely on AOD notifications, which I currently cannot see as they are too dim most of the time. My post also:
