So I've just experienced an issue. I was listening to music through my galaxy buds and when trying to send a text using bixby voice access. I get an error saying that messages needs to be activated in order to send a text. Thing is i'm on Verizon in the US and they are no longer supporting rcs in samsung messages so I had to switch over to Google messages for rcs. How do we fix it so bixby uses Google messages when using voice to send texts? Phone is s23 ultra and buds are the 2 pro.

I believe that I read somewhere that Bixby only works with Samsung apps. So, you will probably have to switch to Google assistant to use Google messages. This may change in a future update as they phase out Samsung messages in favor of Google.

Well that's dumb. I honestly rather use bixby since I use it on my phone as well. They will have to fix it cause they are phasing it out. I just don't like having extra apps on my phone I'm not really using. šŸ˜‚

Google Assistant is not an extra app.  It is part of the Android operating system and baked in, so it's already on your phone and you are not using it.  Samsung created their assistant to work with their UI and is proprietary to Samsung apps. One assistant does not override the other.  You can use both, as their activation words are different.  Want to send an RCS text? use Google Assistant; want to use your Samsung apps? use Bixby. There is probably some overlap in non-Samsung/non-Google apps.  So, you have choices.  You can continue to use Bixby for all your needs and continue to use Samsung Messages without RCS functionality, or you can use Google Assistant and use Google Messages with RCS.  I have no inside information as to whether Samsung will adapt Bixby to work with Google Messages, that may very well be up to Google allowing it.  Who knows, perhaps they will decide to phase out Bixby as well.

I was talking about samsung messages and assistant is still an app. I disable them cause I don't want to use them. I am well versed on the abilities of both. I just figured since we are kind of being forced to use Google messages That this oversight would have been thought through.

It may actually be an issue with Google allowing Samsung to have that access. It could also be that Samsung is working on it. You said you did not like having extra apps on your phone.  Just because you disabled something does not mean it's not there.  It's there, it's just non-functional.

For the record, I have no indication of the extent of your (or anyone's) knowledge, so I always make the assumption they know nothing unless they indicate otherwise.

I am such a nerd back in earlier days I used alternative text apps. It's the theming for samsung messages that got me using it. Then rcs made Google messages more appealing to use since it's kind of universal now. I am well aware I am having a first world problem. Just annoyed they didn't think of it before they made their decision. šŸ˜‚
