Hi!

I have a Samsung S24 Ultra Phone and Galaxy Watch 4. Software and apps on both updated. Both rebooted. Cant figure out why it's no longer automatically backing up at night.

Any thoughts here?

Check your notification history.  Settings, notifications, advanced settings, notification history.  Look for a Smart Switch notification that says "unable to back up watch".  I had a similar issue the other day.  It seems Smart Switch may have had a silent update and the app has to be opened (I don't know why no one ever tells you that) before the watch can be backed up.  After I opened and closed the app, my watch started backing up again.

These types of notifications are internal notifications and don't show up as traditional notifications in your notification area.  These are the types of system notifications that can only be seen by going to the notification history.

Thank you for your reply! I navigated to Smart Sitch in Notification History and saw no reference to backing up watch.

There is no reference to  it, all you have to do is open the app and then close it again.  You should get a backup tonight.  Apparently, both Smart Switch and the health app need to be opened up after an update - or at least that's what the phone told me.

I have started having a similar problem with the Galaxy Watch 7. All the apps are updated, and all the devices are updated on both the watch and the phone. I have had some strange bugs with the watch, not always wanting to sync or taking longer to sync since the One UI 8 update. I have cleared the cache on both the watch and the phone, and that didn't help either. I really don't want to reset the watch without a more current backup. Any suggestions would be helpful.

It even fails when trying to do a manual backup. It won't tell me why it fails, other than sometimes it says "Wi-Fi connectivity," even though I have a great Wi-Fi connection.

I did that, but it made no difference. However, later this morning it worked. So I'm wondering if there might have been a Samsung network outage or something.

No, it was the update to Smart Switch, you had to open it and accept the new terms and conditions (or just open it if your app didn't update, but your phone restarted at any point and  you did not open the app)  It was not going to immediately start backing up your watch, it would back up at it's usual time.  It also may have taken a bit of time to register that the app was now active.

But, as long as it's now working, it will be fine.

OK, I got the One UI 8 update on my S22 Ultra about a month ago,

And approx. 9 to 12 days ago the One UI Watch 8 update on my GW5Pro.
All was going beautifully with the backups til 9 days ago.
Now when I check the backup status in the Wearable app, it tells me last backup was 9 days ago.
Have checked all settings and stuff cannot seem to find anything wrong, it just plain stopped.

See this is the type of stuff, why I got very angry when Samsung removed the manual backup option.
So, now yet again, I have no way to back up my watches data.

PLEASE Samsung bring back manual updates!!!!!

For your watch to back up, you have to have more than 30% power on both the watch and phone, have WiFi on. Preferably the phone should be on the charger and not in use. I believe the screen has to be off.
