Long story Long.

Me and wife are on Mint Mobile, love them. Anyway we do video calls frequently using the phone app. Both of our phones come from our last carrier, but have been ported to mint.

Wife's old phone starts to fail, think it was a note 20... so we purchased a new unlocked S25 Ultra. Everything works, fast shipping bleh bleh bleh

Now, the phone app doesn't have the option for video calls. From what I've read that feature is put on by carriers, and not something that comes with the default Samsung launcher. The problem I have with that is, my carrier supports video calling, we've been on mint for 3 years now and have been using the video calling feature the entire time.

Google meet isn't a solution, it's a work around that requires meet to be installed/enabled/updated for use.  So we lost SD cards, and now we've lost video calling. For a higher price.

Please tell me Samsung has a phone app that restores this functionality.

This is true. When you buy a carrier phone, they makes modifications to the firmware. One notification is to put their video calling app in the phone app.

With an unlocked phone, you won't see that. You can still do video calls with Google Meet or another tool.

On my carrier phone, the default phone app is Samsung Phone v14.7.52
On the unlocked phone. the default phone app is Samsung Phone v15

They are the same app.

They make look the same, but if they were exactly the same code, they would have the same version number.

So Samsung gives their phone app to carriers to customize? But doesn't allow their customers to download a 'carrier specific' phone app so we can use native video calls?

The carrier gets the entire firmware for the carrier phones from Samsung. The carrier applies their customizations and then provides the firmware to their customers.

If you want a carrier specific phone app you would need to contact the carrier. Samsung doesn't own or control that app.

This is the first time ive tried to use video call to another samsung device. I'm so **bleep**! We're being penalized for buying the phone full price? 🙄
