Galaxy S25Check RCS Setup: Ensure RCS is enabled and working in your Google Messages settings.
Verify Data Connection: Make sure you have a stable data connection.
Check Recipient's Device: If you're frequently messaging someone who doesn't have RCS, it's normal for messages to appear as SMS.
Reset Network Settings: If you suspect a network issue, try resetting your network settings.
Clear Google Messages Data: As a last resort, clearing the data for the app might help, but be aware it will reset your RCS database.
Disable RCS Business Messages: If you're interacting with a business that uses RCS, try disabling the option to send RCS business messages.

Galaxy S25If you cleared the data, you will have to reactivate RCS. Go into the Google Messages settings and make sure RCS is turned on. When you clear the data, it basically resets all the settings for the app.

Galaxy S25If they were RCS prior, they should revert. I had one chat revert to SMS for some reason (RCS servers were probably busy when I responded), but when I went back into the chat and tapped the text window, the entire chat returned to RCS. Would it be a big deal if the previous chats remained SMS as long as messages going forward reverted to RCS? I mean SMS was just fine for all these years. It's possible that chats that were previously RCS will revert back to RCS eventually (may take a bit for the server to catch up), but any chat that was done as SMS/MMS will likely remain that way.
If I recall, when RCS was first introduced with Google Messages, my sister did not have a message app that was RCS capable, and had not yet switched to Google. Once she switched to Google and turned on RCS, our historic texts remained SMS, but all new texts within the chat became RCS.

Galaxy S25Does it matter as long as they still exist and the new ones are RCS?
