First, with so many people having this issue on this phone, why is Samsung still selling it. I feel like they are well aware but instead of fixing it, they decided to keep selling faulty phones.

This issue could very well be a hardware one, why else hasn't it been addressed? If someone can explain a true fix, please do.

I've tried both the Google messages (which I despise google) and Samsung messages.

On both, I'm missing messages from past conversations, and not receiving anything in the group messages. Apparently I can create and send a group message but never receive replies.

I'm so disappointed in the direction Samsung has gone.

It is highly unlikely that the issue is hardware related. Sending and receiving messages is almost always a carrier-side issue.

You can troubleshoot by:

-making sure Mobile data is enabled

- making sure group Messaging is enabled in your chosen messaging app (please note: depending on your carrier, Samsung messages may have limited support and Google Messages my be a better option)

- resetting network settings, but you will most likely need to contact your carrier with any unresolved issues.

While it is probably not a hardware issue, if troubleshooting and carrier solutions do not resolve your issues, you can take the device to a certified Samsung repair center to fully diagnose the issue and have any necessary repairs completed. Manufacturer defects will be covered under warranty as long as your device falls within the one year limited warranty period. Find one near you: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/locations/

As an aside, you mention that you dislike Google. Here's a post that you may find helpful in understanding why your Samsung phone requires Google apps and services to function: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Samsung-Apps-and-Services/Why-is-there-so-much-Google-in-my-Sams...

Hope this helps!

I had the same issue when I switched from from Google Messages to Samsung Messages. When I switched back to Google Messages all of my messages were back in groups the way they should be. I used to use Samsung Messages exclusively, but switched to Google Messages a while back. The issue happened when I had the idea to switch back to Samsung Messages. So I'm going to stick with Google Messages from now on.

Itโ€™s not hardwareโ€”itโ€™s a corrupted messaging/RCS database plus carrier provisioning bug. Samsung keeps selling phones because itโ€™s intermittent software. Real fix: clear Messages/Carrier Services data, reset network settings, reinstall Google Messages, re-register RCS, or have your carrier reprovision SMS/MMS/RCS on their backend.

Messaging is almost always the province of the carrier, however, if you are using Samsung Messages, it doesn't currently work properly, because they were in the process of actively sunsetting the app.  There version of RCS is not what carriers have decided to utilize.  RCS handles group messages much better than SMS and Google handles both much better than Samsung Messages.  They are not selling defective phones, they are not continuing to improve their messaging app in favor of encouraging people to use Google Messages.  The only reason Samsung messages still exists at all is because of the outrage from die-hards that demanded that they keep it.  For now it only can be used in the newer S series phones and only the latest S series has RCS and Samsung's RCS is only utilized by two carriers and is not entirely compatible with iPhone users.

You refuse to switch?  Have it your way, you don't have to, but be prepared for a host of mishaps going forward.  I'd rather have an app that actually works than one that I have to tinker with or be surprised with what's going to go wrong next time I open it.  I'm sure Samsung's going to get started right away on your request.

I've never had issues with messages, also uses with enterprise work flawlessly. I don't really have a need for google to be in the mix. Sure lots of other Samsung users feel the same. Its a nice option to have, but I dont want it. Who knows they could cave, but if bixby is still around bahahaha, then they must still wanna fight to be different!

Bixby and Google Assistant/Gemini serve different purposes.  Bixby is good mostly for controlling Samsung specific tasks, while Assistant is more broadly applicable to Android specific apps and Google services, so it can run on any Android device.  Bixby is proprietary to Samsung devices.  I don't see them getting rid of it unless Google integrates Samsung functionality into it, which I don't see happening.  Just because Samsung Messages works for you and your needs today, does not mean it will tomorrow, or next week, or next year.  Good luck with your outdated tech.
