I’m experiencing persistent issues connecting my Galaxy S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, and S25 Ultra via USB in MTP mode to a Dell XPS 15 7590 (as well as prior XPS 9570 and XPS 17 models). The devices fail to reliably establish a file transfer connection. These same phones connect instantly to other PCs, and other devices (like iPhones) connect to the XPS without issue.
Troubleshooting History:
Clean Windows installation
BIOS and firmware fully updated
Latest Samsung and Windows USB drivers installed
Swapped multiple USB cables and ports
Tested various USB hubs and docks
Findings:
MTP mode connects only rarely and unreliably
Image Transfer mode works consistently
MTP sometimes works through older USB hubs
Newer Thunderbolt/USB 3.1/PD docks generally fail
Windows Explorer frequently freezes when connecting in MTP mode
This issue has persisted for over five years across multiple Dell and Samsung flagship devices. It appears to be a recurring compatibility problem between Samsung Galaxy phones and Dell XPS laptops via direct USB MTP connection.
