Add note to photo data

In 2023 a user recommended changing the Gallery app so we can't add a note to the details of photos in the Gallery app.  I just switched from an older IPhone to a Samsung S24.  IPhotos allows a user to add a note to each photo e.g. who is in it, what event it is from etc. Gallery does not.  This is very disappointing.  It must be an easy fix.  It hasn't happened in 2 years.  When will it.  This in my view is a major problem with Gallery.

Currently, you can't add a note to the photo information, but you can add a tag which can serve as a note, such as #family trip.  You can also add a text note right on the picture in the editor.

I'm not clear what "astronaut" and "asteroid" mean, after our usernames.  I think someone whose username was Asteriod posted on this issue in 2023 - I completely agreed with them when I saw their posts in the last day or two and wanted to refresh the request for this to change. 

I already figured out the Tag idea and have used it once. It's very limited and unsatisfying.

I am wanting the same thing, like I just want to add some little details/memories onto the photos, so my kids can read them one day. How is it so hard to do, my nan used to love writing on the back of photos and I now as an adult appreciate it so much, but I don't print my photos, I do everything digitally so need to be able to just add a note into the data.. 🤦‍♀️

My family members used to write on both the back and the front of photos.  You can easily edit the photo to add a text description in an innocuous spot on the front of the photo.  You can also add a tag or edit the photo's title in the metadata.  Instead of keeping the default naming convention of date_photo #, just rename it "location_date_#"  ex: instead of 20251128_193513.jpg > Sitka, AK 20251128_3.  In photos with people, you can add the names in a text box on the front. eg: Mary & Stuart in our Air B&B.  Although, notes would not be a bad idea, I think keeping everything digital is a bad idea.  As technology changes, so too would access to digital media likely change and all those photos would be lost (do you still have a floppy drive to look at all those photos that are on them?).  I don't know about you, but I still like to handle physical photographs and look through albums (cataloguing and organizing, I'm not so crazy about)

There's the story of a friend of mine who converted every single photo of them and their family to a digital archive and then had a bonfire with the original, physical photos. Then the computer crashed and all those photos are completely gone.  Erased from history.  Their whole childhood and family reduced only to memory.
