Have you tried clearing cache for Google Messages or even restarting your phone?

Clear the app data for Google messages or uninstall and reinstall the rhe app. This will not affect your messages.

Just tried clearing cache. Double checking permissions. Its weird i cant click on a name in search bar to semd a text it just disappears and clears the search bar. Its very odd. Im sure the 2 yr long text thread coded itself into the messages app itself. My theory haha doubtful but it did happen after I went to delete a 2 or 3 ur thread. Long long long one.

Try clearing data, as well. You may have to set some things up again.

It's not just you. Google Messages is crashing on new Galaxy phones with One UI 8 / Android 16, especially A-series. It's a software compatibility bug.

Samsung Messages works but feels outdated because it basically is.

Bottom line:

Your brand-new phone + brand-new software combo is buggy right now. A patch should fix it, but if you can upgrade to a higher A-series or S-series, you'll avoid all this mess.

I have no issues with Google Messages, not now or ever in the past.  It's been a  solid steady performer over the last 15+ years.  I currently have OneUI8/Android 16.

Just because it happened to you and others has not happened to me and others, does not make either state a universal condition.  I'd venture to say that for the majority of users, updates go without a hitch (barring the fact that some just don't like the esthetics and consider it a fail), but the fact of the matter is that *all* software has the *potential* to glitch out, depending on the user's other apps and maintenance of the device; along with a possible corrupted data stream in the downloading of the update.

Absolutely โ€” while some users experience issues, most updates work fine; glitches usually depend on individual apps, device maintenance, or download errors.
