My phone has just started refusing to open any pagrs within settings. So, If I click an app (in settings/apps...) a number of screens open and close so quickly I can't tell what they are and it returns to settings homepage. Can anyone please advise?

Sounds like you might have a bad actor app or some malicious website put something on your phone. I would suggest down loading Malwarebytes and run that.

Have you cleared your phone's cache partition?

Yes I 'cleared cache' to no avail. There's no user feedback so impossible to know if it actually cleared though.

To change the settings on the side key, go to settings/advanced features/side button.  Clearing the app cache actually does give you user feedback.  You can see the app's cache size prior to hitting clear cache and then, it's 0 after.

I managed to get into sare mode and delete a problem app. Seems to fix the issue.

I agree with Oxford, you can definitely download Malwarebytes for mobile from the app store and that MAY get rid of the malicious spyware/virus you have on your device but personally... I would just backup my entire device to my Samsung/Google accounts and do a complete factory reset to make sure I got rid of anything and everything infecting my device.
