I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra which I use for work and my company required a password in addition to biometrics for security. I was prompted to change the device password and then forgot what it was, so I had no choice but to factory reset it in order regain access. A Samsung cloud backup exists but in order to restore, its asking for the old Device password before it will restore. To make things worse, if I try the wrong password too many times its threatening to delete the backup.

I need the contacts from the phone that I used for work and do not have backed up anywhere else besides Samsung cloud backup. The S23 Ultra is on Verizon network but its an unlocked phone I bought myself, not thru Verizon.

I can't seem to access the backup through the cloud on my PC other than gallery photos which isn't important.

How can I regain access to my data? Im sure I could figure out what the password is but I would need more attempts than what im allowed and I dont want the backup to be deleted...

HELP!!

I appreciate the response... the backup is in fact protected by the previous device password that I forgot. When I wiped the phone and started over, I was given a prompt to restore using previous Samsung backup. When I selected that I wanted to restore from that backup it specifically asked for previous device password. I am aware that my phone password, Samsung password and Google passwords are all different. In this case the company I work for requires me to use a device password which it defaults to versus biometric (face ID or fingerprint) or by drawing a pattern. For some reason it would not let me use any other method of unlocking the phone besides a password which I couldn't remember as it has prompted me to change it and I must've been preoccupied when I did it which is my fault. I contacted the help desk at work to see if they could remove the secondary profile on the phone that contained secure information which they could not because it wasn't issued by the company. I called Verizon who said its a Google or Samsung issue. I messaged with Google twice to see what I could do and they weren't helpful and pointed at Samsung. I called Samsung and they pointed at Google. Im sure I could figure out what the password is but if I attempt too many times Samsung will delete the backup. Im in a pickle.

It asked for the previous device password for the backup because you had not yet logged into your Samsung account.  Try logging in to your Google and Samsung accounts first and then restoring your backup.  As I said, the password is not contained with or in the backup.  That's why everyone who forgets their device password has to reset through the bootloader, not the phone settings.  There would be an awful lot of people unable to restore their backups after the reset if it required the forgotten password.  So far, everyone has been able to restore their backup.

I was in fact logged into google first as well as Samsung. I promise you that it specifically asked for previous device password.
