I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra which I use for work and my company required a password in addition to biometrics for security. I was prompted to change the device password and then forgot what it was, so I had no choice but to factory reset it in order regain access. A Samsung cloud backup exists but in order to restore, its asking for the old Device password before it will restore. To make things worse, if I try the wrong password too many times its threatening to delete the backup.

I need the contacts from the phone that I used for work and do not have backed up anywhere else besides Samsung cloud backup. The S23 Ultra is on Verizon network but its an unlocked phone I bought myself, not thru Verizon.

I can't seem to access the backup through the cloud on my PC other than gallery photos which isn't important.

How can I regain access to my data? Im sure I could figure out what the password is but I would need more attempts than what im allowed and I dont want the backup to be deleted...

HELP!!

Reset your password using a computer and going to www.samsung.com

Can't. Tried that first, it gave me no option to reset password.

I have access to my Samsung account... I have access to my Google account as well. The device password is separate and was an added security measure that my company required within the phone. There was literally no option to reset the password via web or on the phone even though I can prove my identity and that I own the device and accounts.

Your phone password and your Samsung account password are two different things.  You should not have to change your Samsung password when you reset your phone.  If you don't remember your Samsung password, you will have to go to your account (on a computer is best) and click on the "forgot password" option to reset your account password.  The backups are not protected by your device password.  That's why you have to reset the phone if you forget your pin/password/pattern.  The phone password is not retained in or with the backup.  The password being asked for is obviously your Samsung account password, because you cannot access your cloud without that.

Not his Samsung Password the device password instead of pin or pattern. His company required a password to unlock his device. That's the password he forgot

Robin, read it again, he also said he had to reset and his backup is password protected somehow.

I read it 20 times, the device password. On Samsung phones when you use device passwords in order to get to the backup, he needs the device password.

The only time I ever needed my device password was to reset the phone from the settings.  Perhaps because his Samsung Pass data/contacts are contained therein is why it requires the device password?  Or is there an option to password protect your backups? I don't use Samsung Pass, and I use only Google contacts so that I can access my contacts from any device, even if I get locked out of my phone or lose my phone or it breaks (or even switch phone brands). I have always been able to restore my backup upon reset immediately upon logging into my Samsung account.
