Galaxy S23Your phone password and your Samsung account password are two different things. You should not have to change your Samsung password when you reset your phone. If you don't remember your Samsung password, you will have to go to your account (on a computer is best) and click on the "forgot password" option to reset your account password. The backups are not protected by your device password. That's why you have to reset the phone if you forget your pin/password/pattern. The phone password is not retained in or with the backup. The password being asked for is obviously your Samsung account password, because you cannot access your cloud without that.

Galaxy S23The only time I ever needed my device password was to reset the phone from the settings. Perhaps because his Samsung Pass data/contacts are contained therein is why it requires the device password? Or is there an option to password protect your backups? I don't use Samsung Pass, and I use only Google contacts so that I can access my contacts from any device, even if I get locked out of my phone or lose my phone or it breaks (or even switch phone brands). I have always been able to restore my backup upon reset immediately upon logging into my Samsung account.
