Samsung S22 WiFi Calling Issues

Hello everyone! 

I recently got the regular Samsung S22 about a month ago. So far I love it, except for one thing.

I sporadically have issues receiving or making calls, and also receiving or sending texts at my place of work. I understand that since I work in a steel building that my cellular coverage will be disrupted, which is why I was excited for the WiFi calling feature. 

However, even when I am connected to WiFi calling and have WiFi calling turned on I still miss a ton of calls, texts are slow to send and receive, and making calls takes a long time too if they go through at all. Sometimes texts won't send either.

I have tried all of the steps short of factory reset, because I didn't want to go through all of that and it not even help the problem, although that may be my next step if it still is not working properly.

I've restarted my phone, performed a Network reset, turned airplane mode on, removed and reinserted my SIM card, toggled WiFi calling on and off, toggled between Cellular preferred to WiFi preferred.

I have contacted both Samsung and my carrier and went through all of the steps they both recommended, and they both ended with them telling me to contact the other. The people at Samsung recommended I go to a 'Samsung Walk-in Service Center' which, unfortunately, I don't have one remotely close to me. So they recommend I go to Best Buy and speak to them, which I plan on doing tomorrow. (Fingers crossed)

My carrier wanted me to perform a speed test on the WiFi, which I did, and it must have passed because he had no recommendations for that. When I look at the WiFi symbol it shows I have full bars.

My old phone was a Motorola Moto Z4, which I NEVER had problems making/received calls or sending/receiving texts at work. Same carrier and everything, and that was only a month ago. Nothing else has changed except the phone.

I plan on going to Best Buy tomorrow, but I was just wanting to check in with you guys to see if you had any recommendations/tips/tricks.

I'm through Verizon, if that helps.

And I assume this was the same network you had connected to the moto that had worked fine with wifi calling before? I just ask because I would suggest if possible you should try to connect to the password protected network at work and see if this has any affect I do know firewall settings are different on guest networks and although your previous phone wasn't having an issue the s22 OS and network wifi calling configuration is going to be different and I do know certain secure operations(like sending/receiving calls and texts) can run into issues on unsecured networks

Guest networks have a certain level of protection(firewall) that has to be built in to keep users on the network protected since there is no password and anyone can connect in doing so it can interfere with encrypted data transmission but there is another side it may just be your carrier and/or phone may require a secure network in order to gain a level of access minimal enough to encrypt the calls and texts correctly

One way to see if there's any chance that could be the issue if you have wifi at home it should have a password have you tried using wifi calling on that network? I would also turn off your mobile data connection temporarily when testing while on the wifi and see if that fixes it all wifi calling features should work fine with mobile data turned off to ensure the phone uses the wifi connection

Actually with my Motorola I didn't have the need to use WiFi calling, even at work in the steel building. The antenna must have been a lot better on the Motorola or something because I never had a single issue receiving calls and texts, even when I wasn't connected to the WiFi.

But it is the same WiFi network for sure.

I'll definitely try the WiFi calling at home to be sure, but last time I tried it didn't work there either unfortunately.

Wow so you lose all data and cell signal on the s22 inside or at least to the point where it's unusable?

Exactly! It's super frustrating, especially when my old phone never had a problem. I know steel buildings cause issues with service, because my Motorola was a little slow when loading Facebook, Instagram, etc. but at least I could use it for calls and texting.

Yes I definitely agree was the moto z4 you had on 5g?

No that was just a 4G phone, it was around 2 years old.

Okay so that would be what I would try on the galaxy s22 if the moto z4 worked well then the s22 should only be an improvement the z4 uses an older snapdragon chip so the same brand, same signals except s22 can pick up some z4 can't which is unfortunately probably causing the issue as some of the new networks are still far from complete and compatibility is still being optimized

So go into the s22 and change from 5g/lte/3g/2g to lte/3g/2g essentially disconnect the 5g signal at this point turn off wifi calling and turn off wifi and it should work as well or better than the moto z4 if the z4 was only on its data and cell signal
