If you can borrow a SIM from someone who has that original carrier, you can get the update now and deal with the firmware later.

You said you bought the phone from a retailer. I asked the question about activating service at the time of purchase, which you didn't answer. You didn't say anything about the phone not being new when you purchased it.

Sorry to tell you that your phone has carrier-specific firmware. The only option, if you want OS and security updates, is to get the firmware updated.

One ui 7 is by far the worst ui I've ever experienced, I've been. An avid Samsung user and that update completely made my phone useless.

If the phone is second hand or refurbished that tends to cause these problems not always if the phone has a clear imei and paid off there shouldn't be a issue if unlocked but can try the smartswith
