Front screen blacks out

My front screen keeps going black... like it doesn't come on at all if i get a call or unlock my phone when closed, etc. I can get it back on if I reboot my phone (it's the only way I can get it back on) but it goes black again soon after. Is there anything I can do to make it stop going black?? For the record, i don't have it set to always on. It only lights up with calls and such, but when it goes black, I'll get a call and the screen stays black and no matter what I do, it stays black until I restart my phone
