AOD notifications for Google Messages

Can you turn on lock screen notifications that will turn your phone on when you receive texts on Google Messages?

The closest thing is the notification pop-up style. According to your settings, it will flash a ring around the screen when you get notifications. Also go to messages app settings, then go to notifications and see if settings are turned on and/or similar to second image.

This works great. I recommend it to anyone who wants what the OP wants. Doesn't impact battery at all

You can configure flash notification in the accessibility settings.  Accessibility/advanced settings/flash notification  - choose screen flash or camera flash.
