A Series & Other MobileDoes your carrier support wi-fi calling and is it turned on? If wi-fi calling is on and your phone is on wi-fi calling, your texts should also transmit via wi-fi. Putting on airplane mode without having wi-fi calling on will not force messages to transmit over wi-fi. RCS goes over mobile data because messaging is a mobile network feature. This is why you cannot use a text messaging app if you have an internet only device. Both RCS and wi-fi calling are carrier dependent and must be supported by the carrier. If your carrier supports both, you need to turn wi-fi calling on and keep it on. You also have to set intelligent wi-fi to not switch to mobile. When you are connected to a stable wi-fi network, your phone should default to wi-fi calling and messaging. You can also turn off mobile data for good measure (which gets turned off automatically in airplane mode)

A Series & Other MobileIn the RCS chat settings, also make sure you have turned the slider on to use wi fi or data when available, or it likely won't use wi-fi even with wifi calling turned on. You can also try turn it off, and seeing if it forces wi-fi. I think if it's on it will prioritize mobile data rather than wi-fi. I'm not sure. I've always had it on and I always have wi-fi calling on and haven't noticed an uptick in mobile data - but then, I also don't get a slew of texts.
