For personal reasons, I cannot switch to Google messages or another phone.

I could recieve group messages and photos with Google messages, but since switching to Samsung messages, I cannot receive most messages.

I've checked all toggles and settings and this shouldn't be an issue. The group chat is with iPhone users.

If you are one of those that can still use a version of Samsung messages, you may be using the version without RCS.  Even if it is the version with RCS, Samsung's version of RCS is not compatible with iPhone users and, likely, your carrier.  To my knowledge only T-Mobile uses Samsung's version of RCS, possibly AT&T - but still not compatible with iPhone users.  You will have to switch to Google Messages or Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to communicate with iPhone users.  There is no way around that.  I don't know what your "personal reasons" are for not being able to switch messaging apps, but it's what you are going to have to do either now or eventually, since Samsung is sundowning their app and doing very little to maintain it, and you want to communicate with your iPhone people.

All of those in the group chat are on the same phone plan. That doesn't make a difference?

I have a semi dumb phone so none of those apps are available to me.

Just a heads up, when replying to a comment please utilize the reply button in the text box that you wish to reply to, this way the recipient gets a notification should there be follow-ups.

No it doesn't make a difference about the phone plan.

In order to have a seamless experience with those on IPones you would need to use Google Messages, fullstop. I am sorry for whatever reason you can't use Google Messages this is the only way.

What phone do you have - you posted in A series.  All A series phones are able to use Google messages - even very, very old ones.  The very first Android phones all came with Google messages installed.  There is also no reason you cannot use WhatsApp or FB Messenger, unless your Android version is so old it's no longer supported by the current version of those apps - that would be lower than Android 8, I believe).  Google messages current version requires Android 8 or higher to work.  FB Messenger requires Android 9 or higher.  WhatsApp only requires Android 5.0 and up.  If you are using a phone with a lower version of Android than 5, I'm surprised you can still use any app, but that's also likely why you are having communications issues with iPhone users.  Your version of Samsung messages likely does not have RCS.  You also have the worlds most unsecure phone.  If finances are an issue in phone replacement, I'm sure you can get a deal from your carrier (or another one for switching).

It does not matter if everyone in the chat is on the same phone plan or different ones, they all have different phones and different numbers.  It is strictly the handshaking between RCS or SMS messaging and iPhones.

I have a Wisephone. It runs on a Samsung A15, but uses its own OS, WiseOS. They also have a curated "tool drawer" in place of a full app store. I cannot download anything that is unapproved. Due to personal addictions, I want a messaging app where I can disable the use of all GIFs. Hence Samsung messages. I HAVE Google messages, but it is not safe for me to use.

With such a limited device, your options are severely limited in communicating with iPhone people.  Have you tried asking them your iPhone people to only send messages via SMS?

Sure. But it's my family and I'd love to see any pictures they send and talk about.

Well, I don't know how far into your recovery you are, but it's a good test of your resolve in overcoming your addictions to try the app that works. You can ask your peeps to avoid sending gifs.  You can also disable automatic previews in Google messages which may help with the gif issue - messages settings/automatic previews - make sure all the sliders are off. Also turn off "expressive animations".

It's not receiving that's the issue, it's searching.

I have done all of that but Google messages does not allow GIFs to be turned off. I have confirmed this.
