Wireless Android Auto Automatically Connecting

Who thought it was a good idea to give Android Auto full control of the phone? It repeatedly attempts to connect wirelessly to the point where I can't complete a simple task. This is extremely dangerous while driving and very annoying in general. There's no option to turn the off, reject vehicles (regardless of what the screen says), or any real control. Depending on the software, it will still attempt to connect repeatedly, regardless of the settings.

I've been a loyal S series owner since 2011 and these phones have went down hill. This along with all the other bugs and restrictions are ridiculous

Hello Motown423, Welcome to the Community. Se understand how frustrating it is for an app to take over your phone.

Have you tried going to Settings> Connected Devices> Android Auto

Check the "Startup" settings to see if it is set to start automatically.

If you go to Settings>Apps>Android Auto, is "Appear on top" toggled on or off?

Have you tried to clear the app cache or data? https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10001372/

Yes, I've done everything mentioned. None of this worked. Would it really be that difficult or practical to simply put an "on" or "off" option?

I do not have the power to add what you are looking for, and it probably won't happen any time soon, if ever, but I can offer these suggestions. If you have no need of Android Auto most of the time, you can disable it and then re-enable it when you want to use it.  Or you can keep it disabled and just use Google Maps or Waze on your phone without connecting to AA--just like the old days before AA.  Your phone will still connect to your car for calls and texts.  Since I still have to connect AA through a USB port, it's much easier for me to just use the phone for directions. I do not require to look at the map, just hear the turn-by-turn directions, and my phone speaker is quite loud enough for me to hear. FWIW, I agree that there should either be an on/off option or the choice of "never" for autoconnect.

It says right there in the settings that there are three options for auto connect: always, if used on last drive, or default which is set by the car. So if you have it set to default and it's still trying to connect automatically, that's on your car manufacturer. Chrysler, at least, has a setting where you can turn off auto connect automatically. I suspect that any car that uses U-Connect has this same setting. So, go into settings/connected devices/Android Auto and see which auto connect setting is on. If it's on default, then you have to look in your car's settings to turn it off.
