Can't log into AOL in Samsung email app

Per the title, I'm unable to log into AOL to access my email in the stock email app: I'm on a J3 orbit, just did a factory reset on it and am trying to put my email back in the app, I put in my screen name and password, then push "next" and it gets stuck in an endless loop of trying to login. Same happens when I use the full email instead of screen name, as well as setting it up manually with the POP3/IMAP settings provided by AOL.

I've never had an issue logging in with the app on this device before.

[Edit]

I've resolved this issue by generating an App-Specific password, then returning to the email app and entering the password BEFORE typing my email address on the Add new account panel, once both sections are filled out I was able to see a "processing" legend appear and then I was logged into the account. Typing the email before entering the password would open a browsing page directed to AOL's login terminal within the email app, from there it would get stuck in an endless processing throbber.

Thanks for your help everyone, have a nice Sunday.

A cursory search seems to indicate that AOL often requires an app specific password for third party apps. Here is a guide on how to generate one: https://help.aol.com/articles/Create-and-manage-app-password

As an aside, you are using a discontinued device running deprecated software. You are very likely to continue to encounter issues with apps and services not working properly.

It is highly recommended that you seriously consider upgrading your device.

AOL in Samsung email is pretty straightforward, you put in your screen name or email and password and your in. I have been using it for as long as Samsung Email has been around. It's the only 3rd party app that works seamlessly with AOL email.

OP is probably on Android 8, AOL is Android 9 and up. That is probably their problem.

Ah, so the aside is the main point then ๐Ÿ˜‚ @J3Orbit_user it appears that upgrading to a modern device should resolve your issue.

I'm on android 9, I was sending/receiving emails on the stock up perfectly fine until I factory reset it.

I have never had that problem either with my AOL accounts.

The only thing I can come up with is AOL not supporting the backdoor on Android 8 on your J3. AOL will only go back as far as Android 9.

I don't use AOL's app, but I can login with every app that interfaces with AOL beside Samsung email.

I just logged out of my AOL accounts in Samsung Email and the AOL email app and I had no problems. Their servers are working.
