Cloud Backup

Nowadays, your smartphone is much more than a communication device. You can take pictures, create videos, store essential data, play games, use it as a GPS device, etc. However, despite the importance of smartphone data, many users fail to protect it adequately.

Not backing up your Samsung can lead to permanent data loss due to accidental deletion, device compromise, or theft. On the other hand, regular, continuous backups ensure you can restore data following various data loss scenarios.

Why Samsung Phone Backup is Important?

Although your Android phone offers many convenient features, proper device backup requires you to go the extra mile. Choosing to skip backup can expose your personal and app data to various data loss threats, such as accidental deletion, hardware failure, software bugs, system crashes, cyberattacks, natural disasters, physical device damage, theft, etc.

How to Backup Samsung phone Data to Samsung Cloud

In addition to syncing your smartphone data with the Samsung Cloud, you can back up data from your Samsung device to said Cloud. To do so, you must first sign in to your Samsung account and then follow the steps below:

Open Settings -> Accounts and backup.
• Tap Samsung Cloud -> Back up data.
• Check the items you want to back up and tap Back up.
• Tap Done.

Enable Automated Backups

To enable automated backups to the Samsung Cloud, follow the steps below. (keep in mind, the backup cycle occurs once every 24 hours; for it to complete, your phone must be connected to Wi-Fi and charged, and the screen must have stayed off for at least one hour)

  • Open Settings -> Accounts and backup.
  • Tap Samsung Cloud.
  • Select More options (the three vertical dots) -> Settings.
  • Select Sync and auto backup settings -> Auto back up.
  • Choose what files to back up automatically to the Samsung Cloud.
You can back up the following data types to the Samsung Cloud: Apps, Calendar, Call Logs, Contacts, Clock: Alarms, Documents, Home Screen, Messages, Music, Phone, Settings, Voice Recorder.

The Best Strategy: A Multi-Layered Approach

Combine cloud (for automatic, off-site security) with local backups (Smart Switch/PC) for complete peace of mind, ensuring you have both convenient synchronization and a robust, offline recovery option.

As you mentioned, I also do a Smart Switch backup periodically, and always before any software update, even if it is only a security update. This saves a lot more than what is saved using the cloud update.

If you don't have a computer or attached SD card, you can use a USB-C thumbdrive or a USB-A thumbdrive with an adapter to back up all the data on.

You are welcome! I think we both edited our previous replies at the same time.

I just wanted to add the information about thumbdrives because I know quite a few people who did not realize that they can use thumbdrives instead of PCs to backup using Smart Switch.

Good article. Thanks for posting!

It is how I mainly back up my phone, every 2 weeks.

But you can do a temporary cloud update for up to 30 days, of everything. I do that before updates.
Usually I just have Google backup for everything. (I might have Samsung cloud normal backup aswell.)

Great tips. As someone who has very little sympathy for those that think northing will ever happen to their phones, and consequently don't independently back up their data externally, maybe this will drive the point home.
