If you're considering buying a new Frame TV and use an external HDMI device (Xbox, Playstation, Apple TV, Nintendo Switch, Chromecast, etc...) the TV will not work correctly with them. Be warned.

Firmware 1520 update has broken CEC for Samsung Frame 2022 models (and possibly more). This means that Frame TVs returning to Art mode after using a device is functionally broken.

Devices that should be powering off the TV via CEC are no longer recognized by the Samsung TV, there are multiple threads about this but they tend to specifically mention devices (Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, etc...).

The common denominator here is that ALL CEC power off events for ALL devices are now broken with the latest firmware update, they used to function correctly before this update.

If you hard power cycle the TV, the very first CEC power off event will work correctly, but then it never functions correctly again. Instead of powering the TV down or returning to Art Mode (whichever you have configured) the TV now sits in "Check device power" screen. This effectively breaks the entire functionality and purpose of having a Frame TV...which is that it returns to Art mode after you're done with whatever you're doing.

Samsung techs are blaming Microsoft, Apple, Google, Nintendo, and Sony and telling people to call their tech support. The common denominator here is Samsung, not every other device manufacturer.

The latest firmware update has broken Samsung Frame TVs, and there is no way to downgrade firmware. We all just get to wait while Samsung is blaming everyone else and not working on a fix. The tech that I spoke to was super nice, but told me that "my scenario is very uncommon" and that their firmware is not broken. This is objectively not true. This firmware update is broken. Please fix it, please let me downgrade.

In the meantime, hopefully your device supports power-down and volume controls via IR. This isn't a long term solution though. Samsung needs to acknowledge this and roll back or hotfix whatever change broke this.

1602.3 still broken, it looked like it was okay for a few days but is now not working anymore. Plus new issues with brightness.

Any update on this?

I bought a frame tv 2022 (QE55LS03BAUXXN) model and have a problem related to this I think.

I had an amazon fire tv which did not work well with the frame tv (although it was working fine on an older model samsung tv). CEC/Arc kept getting disconnected. I replaced it with an nvidia shield tv, which is working well.

But with my Nintendo switch it's not working well. I get picture, but the CEC is not working. It doesnt recognize it as a device and when I follow the connection guide, "Nintendo" as a brand is not available. Screens of the nintendo and tv do not turn on and off together. When the nintendo is switched off, the tv shows the "check device power" screen. Tried a lot of things. Different hdmi cables. plugging, unplugging, latest firmware check, rebooting in different orders, checking the CEC/Anynet settings on both devices .

Firmware of the tv is auto-updated to the latest version (1602). I though I saw an updated firmware (1603.1_1602.2) on the Samsung website and downloaded it. Put it on a USB and plugged it into the tv. It recognizes that the stick is there and automatically checks for updated software but then notifies that the tv is up to date already.

(Also my Sony Sound system is not responding to the universal remote, eventhough the exact model is available in the list of options. The power tests fail. But I can manage that with the remote of the Shield tv)

Any advice on getting the Nintendo Switch and frame tv connected with CEC would be appreciated!

No updates and they may never be. This has been going on since March 2023. Soon as firmware 15xx was released. Samsung has not addressed or tried any workaround on this support forum. When you call them make you do all the stuff we have done already. You can swap the board and hope firmware 14xxx is on it. Then when it auto updates even when you have that turned off, you are back on firmware 16 and the problem is back again. Samsung doesn't care to fix it, because they have cornered the market. No competition and they know it. So we are left hanging on their whims.

I can also confirm the latest update 1602 still does not resolve this issue - however it does seem slightly improved.

Still trying to figure out exact repro steps for failure - however one consistent behavior is that I can 100% reproduce the issue when the attached device (in my case, Apple TV 4k) turns itself off as a result of the "auto off after X minutes" feature.

Based on that, I found this thread:

If that changes who is to blame... I don't know.

Even if you have NO Apple TV attached it will still randomly switch to "no connection check device power...blue screen". Even if you turn off Anynet and remove Samsung Smart TV app...its just garbage firmware.

Sheesh. I learned my lesson not to rely on Samsung's support of their products after I bought a Samsung smart washer/dryer (that was after I bought the TV - which was FINE until the stupid software update).

We're an Apple household, so I expected to use SmartThings on iOS to connect the appliance to my home network to use those features - and it just wouldnt work - some 'connection failed' error in the app. I reported the issue - the email support and call centers both left me high and dry with "our software team is looking into it" - and never ever followed up with me - so I had to keep chasing them up - and always got the same answer.

The local NZ samsung appliance support company told me outright that the iOS app doesnt work - they've never succeeded in connecting a washer to it.

Almost 12 months after I reported the issue, finally, it started working. Did their support department follow up with me? Nope. Not a single time.

So, for almost a year, from the day I purchased it, the "smart" washer-dryer was a "dumb" washer-dryer. I should really have just returned it (we have very good consumer protection in NZ, they would have been obliged to provide a refund), however it isn't really the NZ retailers fault for crappy Samsung support - so I stuck it out.
