Hi Everyone
update.
For months I have been chasing Samsung re: firmware updates, eventually I got hold of 2nd level support and a technician that actually knew something instead of giving me standard pre-canned responses.
I was using 1004 firmware and then upgraded to 1005, unfortunately there was not any improvement.
However, Samsung support gave me access to v1301...a big jump in version numbers and now this is on the support websites to download as a USB update. (I am not sure if it is available via auto updates as I had upgraded them all manually as at the time, the auto update process didn't have the new firmware).
I can say that this version 1301 has "improved" but unfortunately not eliminated the screen blanking issue. This is very disappointing, but that being said it is happening a lot less these days once I have upgraded to this firmware.
So if you are running on anything less than 1301 and have this issue, I suggest you upgrade to the new version. You won't regret it. I have contacted support again, to find out if they are still going to continue looking into this problem. [I have also indicated that I have another problem with the Settings - Number - Color button on the remote, and that my remote eventually stops responding to my monitor - oh well will have to wait for that to be fixed.]
Anyway back to the monitor problem. I only seem to have the problem with Display Port. (Don't matter what frequency as it still occurs - FYI I operate the monitor at 120Hz. But tried 60Hz and 240Hz and still same issues. However, if I use HDMI I don't have any issues at all. I am using a NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super; using G-Sync Compatible/Adaptive Sync.
I have this monitor (as well as a G6) connected to my main PC using Display Port and then a work PC connected via HDMI. I am mainly on HDMI during the day and have NEVER had the issue with HDMI on the G8. However, when using Display Port, the problem still exists. (BTW the G6 has never missed a beat - so if you only use one computer connected to the monitor I will suggest you change your cable to HDMI. But if you are like me that use two computers connected up, the one using Display Port will probably still have an issue.
Do other people still have this issue with the screen going randomly black for about 1-2 sec from time to time? What Frequency (Refresh Rate) are you using?
Thanks
Neal

Monitors and MemoryDisable Variable refresh rate in Windows solves the issue of the random black screen for about 1-2 seconds
The setting is in Settings -> Display -> Graphics -> Default graphics settings -> Advanced Graphics settings -> Variable refresh rate
My settings
Hdmi 2.1 ā 240hz ā nvidia gsync ON ā 12bit color HDR ā windows vrr OFF ā windows fast boot OFF
Monitor settings
Custom 1 and (Custom 2 for dark games)
Adaptive-sync ON
HDR10+ Gaming OFF
GameHDR OFF
Brightness 50
Contrast 48
Sharpness 10
Color 25
Contract Enhancer OFF
HDR Tone mapping Static (use Active end set Peak Brightness to High for dark games ā Custom 2)
Colour Tone Natural
ST.2084 -1
Shadow Detail -2
Colour Space Settings Normal (use native for oversaturated colours ā Custom 2)
Peak Brightness Medium (as High will actually darken the screen on this mode ā only set this to High if you use Tone mapping Active ā Custom2)
VRR control OFF
Donāt set a color profile using windows hdr calibration as custom 1 is 560nits and custom 2 400nits
In the nvidia app you can also set the video improvements under system to video super res ON and HDR to ON (this will be good if you have hdr on all the time, videoās will be converted to HDR)
Also Note that enabling HDR10+ Gaming in the monitor settings is broke if you play HDR10+ Games like Call Of Duty 6 (it will be over bright) on hdmi 2.1 (On Display port HDR10+ gaming is not triggered so enabling in there wonāt be an issue)

Monitors and MemoryVRR was already disabled on my system, yet the 1-2 second black screen still persists. It generally happens within 10mins of the monitor being powered on or waking from standby mode.

Monitors and MemoryI will give this a try. But please note in the original post that the issue only occurs when using Display Port and not HDMI .

Monitors and MemoryIt didn't solve the issue on DP, but I didn't have any problems with HDMI.

Monitors and MemoryThanks for going through this entire process! I got my G80SD on Saturday and I have the same issue...
I haven't tried HDMI yet but not using DP is not really an acceptable permanent solution for a monitor this expensive. I also only get the black screen once after a few minutes of usage. I've tried different cables, changins ettings(VRR/GSYNC) nothing has helped so far.
I'll definitely keep an eye on this.

Monitors and MemoryI am experiencing the same issue. I switched to HDMI, which works around the intermittent black screen. However, I would prefer that my PC connects via the DisplayPort so that I may use the HDMI ports for other devices.

Monitors and MemoryI am having the same issue with the black flicker, especially with gaming. i am connected with a displayport with hdr enabled at 240hz and VRR is disabled. I am inclined to just refund the display given the price point.

Monitors and MemoryI did a video of the issue, and sent it to Samsung support before Christmas and send a 'better' longer example to them on the 10th Jan. I will be sending them a followup email this week. I have offered to run any diagnostic s/w or give them logs etc. to assist with troubleshooting issue. HDMI I don't have a problem - only DP. It can be very annoying as the black screen can last 1-2 seconds. But at least the current firmware is better than 1005, at least now it only happens a couple of times. I will report back once I hear back from Samsung support.

Monitors and MemoryI bought two of the monitors to dual screen and have already just returned one of them. I am allowing for the second one to test, but it too has already started to demonstrate the issue. As premium (and expensive) of a product the screen is, this sort of issue just isnt acceptable for me and I have a limited return window, so I will avail myself of it unless Samsung magically resolves the issue in the next few days. I wish you godspeed in your efforts.

Monitors and MemoryHi,
Same problem with my OLED G8 S32DG802SU with Display Port.
Maybe you can mention this post and also the other one in the same forum to show them that this is an issue with several customers ? thx
