This is the thread for the Samsung Odyssey 3D model G90XF PC monitor. This is a high-end 4K 165 hertz IPS-LCD monitor that has the world’s best glasses-free 3D display.

Base Specs

  • Resolution: The Samsung Odyssey 3D delivers a sharp 3840x2160 (4K) resolution.
  • Refresh Rate: Samsung Odyssey 3D is 165hz.
  • Response Time: <1ms response time.
  • 2D Viewing Angle: Due to being an In-plane Switching (IPS) LCD, the Odyssey 3D has a super wide viewing angle, nearly encompassing the full 180 degrees both vertically and horizontally without noticeable dimming or color shifting.

3D Specs

  • Glasses-free: You see stereoscopic 3D, glasses-free, instantly when viewing supported 3D content. This is enabled through a polarized switchable lenticular optic in front of the display.
  • Head-tracked 3D: Monitor tracks your head to enable a wide field of view / viewing angle in 3D. The downside is that 3D only works for one user at a time. It locks onto whichever person is detected being closest to the display. This is the best head-tracking ever in a consumer 3D device.
  • Switchable: Unlike many other 3D displays, this one is fully switchable, meaning you get full resolution and full frame rate in 2D mode. The 3D features don’t negatively impact your 2D experience.
  • 3D Resolution: You get 1920x2160 per eye, which is on paper a full 2x the pixels of a 1080p HD resolution display per eye. But for some content your perceived resolution will be lower, and for some content it will be higher. It depends on whether the content was optimized for the display or not.
  • 3D Refresh Rate: Unlike old 3D tech like 3DTVs which cut your refresh rate in half, this display gives you a full 165 hertz refresh rate fully accessible in 3D.
  • HDR: HDR is available in 2D, but there is currently no HDR available in 3D, which is unfortunate. Maybe Samsung will enable it in a future update.
  • 3D Brightness: This is a next-generation glasses-free 3D display, so unlike older 3D devices, the image in 3D mode is equally as bright as it is in 2D mode.

3D Drivers

  • Reality Hub: Samsung Reality Hub is the driver, runtime, and software launcher that enable stereoscopic 3D on the Odyssey 3D. You can get Reality Hub directly from Samsung's website or from the Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Store version has an auto-update feature. Ensure Reality Hub is downloaded before trying to enable 3D.

Official Hardware Requirements

  • CPU
    • Intel: Samsung says “i7 or Higher”, which doesn’t really mean anything. If you find an i3 or i5 that works or an older i7 or i9 that doesn’t, please comment on this thread.
    • AMD: Ryzen7 1700X or later.
  • GPU
    • Nvidia: RTX 3080, 3080-Ti, 3090, 3090-Ti, 4070, 4070 -Ti, 4070-Ti Super, 4080, 4080 Super, 4090, or better
    • AMD: Radeon 6900 XT, 6950 XT, 7900 XT, 7900 XTX, or better
  • RAM
    • 32GB or more of DDR5-5600 or faster
  • PCIe
    • PCIe 5.0
  • OS
    • Windows 10, 64-bit, Version 22H2 or newer

This is what Samsung says is officially supported as the min spec for 3D. But unofficially, we’ve found a lot of other hardware that’s weaker than what’s listed works perfectly fine. If you’re having issues getting the monitor to work and you have the supported hardware, make sure you have a supported HDMI or DisplayPort cable plugged in, as well as ensure the USB cable between the monitor and the computer is plugged in as well. 3D can NOT work without the USB connection! You must also select the port you wish to enable 3D mode for within the monitor OSD.

AI 3D Conversion Hardware Requirements

  • All other min specs are the same for AI 3D Conversion, except for GPU. ONLY Nvidia is supported, and only select 3000-series and 4000-series cards will work.
  • GPU
    • Nvidia: RTX 3080, 3080-Ti, 3090, 3090-Ti, 4070, 4070-Ti, 4070-Ti Super, 4080, 4080 Super, 4090. If you find one of these cards doesn’t work or a model outside of these does, please post your exact model in this thread.

Reality Hub 3D Games

  • The First Berserker: Khazan
  • Lies of P
  • Stray
  • Dragonball Z: Kakarot
  • Little Nightmares II
  • F.I.S.T.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake
  • Wigmund
  • Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition
  • Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed
  • The Smurfs - Dreams
  • PALWORLD

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super

Processor: Intel Core i9-14900k

RAM: 64GB RAM,  3.20 GHz,

If I launch supported games from the Hub app they run totally fine (although it's a ~50:50 shot as to whether the 3D effect activates, but I imagine that's a software issue). My PC is definitely capable and within spec. It's gotta be the software itself which is simply extremely inconsistent or non-functional

Maybe. It works perfectly for me, every time. I use an RTX 3080.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling or installing the software on a clean install? Have you tried plugging the cable into a different USB port or using a different compatible USB cable?

Are you using the version of the software directly from Samsung or through the Windows Store?

Tried reinstalling the software hub multiple times, as well as downloading from both the Samsung site and the Windows store. Neither has made a difference, unfortunately.

Tried multiple USB ports and cables, so far no luck unfortunately.

It's frustrating. The Hub software, when it's up on screen, works 100% of the time, but 2D->3D conversion has never worked even once... It's the main reason I bought the monitor and it's non-functional.

Do you have any razer software running?  I have to close Razer software to get it to run every time otherwise it is a shoot.

Nope, I don't have any Razer peripherals at all.

Any overlays at all though (such as Nvidia overlay, and maybe Steam overlay) seem to interfere and prevent it from working on games launched from the hub.

2D conversion is still totally non-functional. When I click the pop-up, it either ignores it completely or it briefly tries to work but then the software crashes. My PC is well within spec, it's strange.

I can play game in 3D, but never succeeded in video 2D to 3D conversion, error report from .Net Runtime "The application requested process termination through System.Environment.FailFast.Message", can anyone from Samsung can fix this issue? I have checked with Samsung support, and didn't get response yet, I really need help on this.

And I'm pretty sure my pc is Nvidia 4070 Ti, which is covered video 2D to 3D conversion's requirement.

I'm unsure if this will help, but I was unable to get any 3D working until I set my PC's resolution down from 150% (which is the recommended setting on my PC) to 100%. Now that the resolution is 100% 3D games and video conversion works every time. Unfortunately, a side effect of this is all the icons and everything else on my Desktop and web browser is extremely small so now I need to really get close to the monitor to read anything.👁

You are adjusting the scaling,  not the resolution.

Scaling is a pita on 4k and higher monitors.

does anyone have the 1.09 version of the reality hub?  (current 1.12 version is the only available download on Samsung support page)

I have not had success getting 2d-3d conversions to work in full screen.  The pip prompt appears with the option to convert video to 3d (asking which type of content is being displayed, 2d or sbs) either option fails to convert, regardless of the content being displayed.  I have tried several different media players and web content platforms.  The 1.12 version fails to convert video to 3d.  I read someone else’s post explaining they had success with the 1.09 version, but the new update (1.12) wasn’t able to do conversions (2d-3d)

(fyi) My pc meets or exceeds all the requirements.  I reinstalled the reality hub several times.  I’m able to display 3d on the actual reality hub, it launches fine and the camera enables (red light on) then thereafter the 3d enables on the hub.  outside of the hub full screen video fails.  the camera light never turns on after the prompt appears, so I believe there is some issue with the 1.12 version being able to turn the camera on, responding to requests from the reality hub or leiasr simulated reality conversion player.

Is there some sort of windows service dependency I’m missing?  Is there another software requirement to enable full screen conversions?  From other posts, the 1.09 version works, so I would like to try this version for troubleshooting purposes.

if anyone has any suggestions, your help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance

I believe the version in the Windows Store hasn't been updated to 1.12. Have you tried that? It's the version before 1.12 whatever that was.
