du7200 - possible solution to having no optical port

I have an older receiver that only has optical and I was thinking of buying the du7200 that does not have an optical port. I found an HDMI to optical cable that will pull the audio from the HDMI signal,  but I wanted to know if I connect this to the TV's HDMI port, will the sound come through no matter what the source, i.e. streaming via WIFI? Since there is no HMDI for streaming via WIFI, will the sounds still go through the HDMI port? Or is there another way, like using the TV's USB port?

I guess I just don't understand how or if HDMI works when the content is being streamed.
