Last night, the picture suddenly disappeared, followed by a black screen and the remote didn't seem to work so the unit was unplugged.  Next morning, the issue remains and seems fatal.  All external inputs are disconnected.  When the unit is plugged in, a clicking sound is heard, then a soft blue screen briefly, then black screen.  After 10-15 seconds, the cycle repeats = click, blue, black.  Remote power button doesn't seem to be recognized.   Tried this a couple of times; once I got instead of just a blue screen, a solid "SUMSUNG QLED 8K logo" screen was displayed which rapidly turned into a logo with missing horizontal lines, followed by a black screen.  The cycle repeats over and over.

Unit is 5 years old.  Any suggestions to counter my current opinion that this appears to be an internal component problem that isn't worth the expense to attempt to repair?

I concur with your current opinion that it is an internal component failure and probably isn't worth the cost of a repair.
