Power went off in the middle of the night unknown for how long. Panel inside fridge is flashing C and 8. Temperature should be in F. Turned off for for about 8 minutes tried the reset info I found online did not work. Fridge is running and seems to be working. Any ideas and possible repair cost?

I think you are correct the ice maker has been broken for a while, long story. But maybe with the power going off and the back on made the error code show? Anyway I could care less about repairing the ice maker. But if I leave it as is could there be any problems in the future?
Unsure but as long as the freezer and refrigerator is cooling I wouldn't worry about it. But I would recommend repairing it.
