I've had my watch for a couple of years now and I don't understand why it power off and it shows at least half charged or the battery does not last all day like it use too when I first got it.

Because an aging battery dies faster.  You cannot expect it to behave as if it was new.  Powering the watch back on after you shut it down also takes an enormous amount of power because it optimizes as it boots and checks for updates.  You can do a diagnostic on the watch battery to see if it's performing normally, or if there is an issue. I just recently replaced my watch 4 with a watch 7 because the 4's battery came up as problematic on the diagnostic. Batteries do not last forever.

It's not because of an aging battery, but because of this recent update. I purchased the watch 6 in Nov 2023, and after an update in Oct 2024, the battery life has been horrible!!! It went from at least 24 hours off 100% charge to less than 8 hours. I can't upgrade or trade it in because I'm not eligible yet, and Samsung isn't any help.

I figured it had to do something with the update. Imma just throw it away because I'm not buying another one

I've been a loyal Samsung fan for decades now, and this watch thing is very disappointing. They're even talking about it in Reddit. Samsung needs to do something to fix what they broke!

Yes they do. I've been a fan of them as well as long as I can remember

Why throw it away? At some point you can use it as a trade in for some other device. It's still usable. So you have to charge it more often - big deal, they will either come up with a fix for it, or the update truly did ruin the battery.

The watch 4 is older than the watch 6 and it *does* have an aging battery.  The update may or may not have helped it along.  Batteries have a finite life and the older they get the less charge cycles they have left, and they do not stay charged as long.  Did you not ever take physics?

I'm fully aware that rechargeable batteries have a shelf life. However, they do not go from 100 to 50 overnight. They tend to deteriorate over time. It doesn't take a class physics to know that. My watch did just that, went from 20+ hours to less than 10 daily. I'm not sure about you, but I can't charge my watch while sleeping or exercising if I plan to use it during those times.

Yes, but we were discussing the OP's watch 4 battery, not your watch 6.  The watch 4 is older and the OP probably has had more charging cycles than you.
