similar to https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-Watch/Timer-app-does-not-stay-on-screen-while-running-on-...

but the "now bar" is not solving the issue in my case. Can i have the selected timer NOT disappear /switch back to home screen by itself?

It is a cardinality issue - "now bar" shows 1 <- exactly 1 (or 0), but fails with any other number. I have usually 3 things in my now bar while working out - music, "excersize", "timer"

I want to see the timer, without clicking every time. ideally large enough to see at a glance (like in the timer app).

The now bar on the watch has two visibility options.  1) show the icon only, which will not show you the running countdown.  2) icon and text, which *will* show you the running countdown on a bar across the 6:00 position, and will show when you activate your watch screen to check.

To set the option, slide your screen up to the app drawer, select the settings gear.  Scroll to advanced features and scroll to "now bar style".  Tap that and select which features for which you want to change the now bar style.  For the timer, choose "icon with text".  If you don't want to change the now bar style, another option is to choose a customizable watch face and add the timer as a complication.  Tapping the complication will bring you to the timer settings and, once set, the countdown will appear in the complication.  This method has the added benefit of making the timer easily accessible without additional swipes.

does the Now bar let me configure which of the 3 notification to prioritize?

"icon" vs "icon with text" does not address my issue - it shows the wrong timer, the one from "excersize" (count-up, green) not the real timer i want to see (countdown, blue)

Did the old timer tile?  I don't generally run more than one timer at once.  My exercises are kept track of on the workout tile, not on a timer, and not on the now bar.  If you are keeping track of your exercise times - start a workout and set the screen to stay on during workouts.  You will have your exercise timer front and center.

Also, your issue is best addressed by sending feedback to the development team, not here on a user to user forum, where no user can fix the issue for you. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692

I have the workout started. eg I work out for 45 minutes. Within those 45 minutes, so lets say at minute 30, i want to do a 2 minute plank. So within those 2 minutes I want to see the 2 minute timer on my wrist, not the overall workout timer at 30-32.

before the last update, the timer that i manually selected to be visible, would continue to be visible until i remove it/put it into background. I had the power to select what to see - the workout app (green) or the timer app (blue).

The last update removed that functionality by just arbitrarily closing the app i have open, if it is the timer. the workout app in contrast seems to stay open and not be arbitrarily put in background.

Thank you for the feedback link

Perhaps putting the timer as a complication on your watch face would solve that issue.

It wouldn't, because it will take usualy pretty limited complication space + it is sopper basic feature that was already in the watch before should be to hard to revise it back as it was behaving before the update, because I agree with initial comment it is a huge miss in current ui version.

It depends on which watch face you choose.  There are watch faces with up to 8 complications.  I have no issue using the timer as a complication on my 3 complication face.  It all depends on how you want to fill your complications.  My personal esthetic is that I don't have to see all information all the time at once.  I'm not too lazy to scroll to a tile to see the information I want to see.  Since I use the timer a lot, it makes sense to me to have it readily available.

Adaptability to a current situation is a useful skill set.

thank you. yes that works. a bit small to read, but better than not having it. id still prefer them to bring back the original functionality (just leave an app in foreground until user puts it in background).

Most people prefer the original design of the watch tiles.  I moved the timer to a complication because I use it a lot, and like to see the countdown at a glance.  I don't mind that it's small, as long as I can see it.  Depending on the watch face, you can also move it to a larger, center, complication - such as below:
