Afternoon guys,

Is it possible to show how many miles walked on galaxy 8 watch, I know I can see the steps walked but not miles, I have just come across from the Fitbit Charge 6 where it shows steps and distance walked?

Kind Regards

If you go to the health app and tap on the daily activity tile it will show you distance while active.

It's been my experience with this feature that the displayed mileage walked is close to double the actual distance walked. With GPS location data available to the phone/watch there is no excuse for there being an almost one hundred percent error when a distance walked or run is displayed in the Health app. Several weeks ago I hiked five miles, 19,700+ steps, which my phone and watch stated was a 9.46 mile hike. Samsung needs to provide a calibration capability into their software for users to correct such chronic errors.

You are probably getting double step counts. Unless you are taking baby steps, a 5 mile hike or walk should be around 10,000 steps. The average adult human takes approximately 2000 steps per mile. Are you syncing your steps with another app?

Step length is irrelevant. Location data should be what's used to generate and provide the distance walked or run, just like in Waze and other routing apps.

Stride length is absolutely relevant and they base distance and step count on the average stride length of the population.  GPS data does not come into play unless there is an exercise in progress.  People walk many steps over the course of the day, in their offices, in their homes, in the supermarket, subway, etc.  GPS has no way of calculating that.  Also, the watch is not a pedometer, it counts steps based on arm movement. If you do not move the arm with the watch while walking (i.e. pushing a stroller or shopping cart), you will not get your steps counted.  Conversely, if you happen to move your arms a lot in a walking like motion, it will count it as steps - this is how people cheat at the step challenges. The phone, however, is a more accurate indicator of step count, as it actually *does* use a combination of GPS (outdoors) and hip movement (if in your pocket or purse).  The data should sync  in the health app, but if you are not carrying your phone while taking steps and only wearing your watch, the step count will likely be inaccurate.

It doesn't use steps to determine distance, that is done by GPS. I was only pointing out that you're getting double the data possibly due from syncing with another app.

If you go to 'walking' in the exercise app, all the metrics are available
