Galaxy Watch 8 problems with notifications

A customer service rep told to post something here because customer service was unable to help me.

I traded in my Galaxy Watch 6 for the Galaxy Watch 8 this year but I have been having issues with notifications.

The notifications first start coming in in real time when I first restart my watch. However, after 20-30 mins or so, certain notifications notify me but others don't come in until I look at my watch (raise wrist to wake or turn on the screen). The biggest problem seems to be with kakao talk. They don't come in in real time until the watch screen is on - they come flooding in at once. I've tried uninstalling kakaotalk app from my watch and turning off/on certain features, factory reset my watch, but nothing seems to help. If I restart my watch, it fixes it temporarily again.

I've tried toggling on "turn on screen when notifications received" and it works at first but stops again especially for messaging apps like Teams or Kakaotalk. It seems to only work for emails but I also don't want the screen to turn on every time I get a notification because I dont want others to see everything I get a notification.

I didn't have any of these issues with my Galaxy Watch 6.

Please help! I keep missing important notifications!

First, make sure all your notifications are set to "alert", not silent.  Open the Wear app and go to watch settings/notifications/app notifications and make sure all the apps for which you want notifications on the watch are toggled on.  Some apps may have a delay in notification simply because there is no watch companion app, but it shouldn't be more than 30 seconds behind the phone notification.  Also in the wear app/notifications/advanced settings make sure to turn on "new notification indicator on watch face".  This will place an orange dot at the 9 position so that you know there are new notifications, and you will see it when you turn the screen on, whether by raise wrist to wake, tap to wake or the side button.  It's OK, to turn on the setting to turn on screen when notifications received, as no one can read your notifications anyway unless they are holding your wrist in their hands when a notification arrives - can you read a tiny notification on a small screen from 3 feet away?.  You can just have the screen turn on for the notification and not have the details show automatically.  Again in the wear app, go to settings/sounds and vibration and make sure vibration is on (you can also choose sound, if you prefer).  Choose your vibration strength and pattern.

As for Teams or Kakaotalk, the issue may lie with those particular apps.  I don't know what kakaotalk is, but it looks to have a companion app for the watch in the Play store. Download it to the watch, and it may help with the notification delay.  Teams does not have a companion app for the watch, so you may have to continue to have delayed notifications.

It's not that I dont want them to read my notifications. I know they can't read it but it's annoying to have the screen turn on every time I get a notification because it's distracting, especially in a dimly lit room. Also, the battery will run out that much faster.

Even when I turn off the feature to not show the details automatically, it seems to just open it anyway as well.

In the meantime, I will try the steps you sent me. Thank you.
I also turned off wrist detection to see if that helps, although it can be a security risk

I don't think wrist detection being turned off becomes much of a security risk, since you have to set a PIN for the watch anyway.  It may become an annoyance if you have a PIN and it keeps asking for it every time you try to access the watch functions because it isn't detecting it's on your wrist.

True.. ok!
In the meantime I checked to see if kakao notification was on "alert" instead of silent. And notifications were toggles on, but when I clicked on it anyway, there was an option to customize alerts, leading to another option of "alert" vs "silent" and so far it seems to do the trick for now. Before it would just not vibrate even though I got the orange notification bubble but now it vibrates at the same time as my phone. I hope it continues to work!
