Any SWIMMERS in here?

I need some ideas.

I had a Watch 7 Ultra which became EXTREMELY inaccurate in pool length tracking after receiving OneUI8 Beta, and then OneUI8 Stable. I always swim 110 lengths in a 25-yd pool, and while it used to track them perfectly, that all changed with the new software. It started counting between 140 and 155 lengths. I could even feel the watch notify I'd completed two lengths IN THE MIDDLE of a length; sometimes even twice in one length.

Thinking I might have better luck with fresh hardware and factory fresh software, I traded it in for the Watch Ultra 2025.

I took my first pool swim since receiving the new watch two days ago, and I'm getting the same result: over-counted pool lengths. I swam my usual 110 lengths, and the watch counted 156.

Two watches, same problem, leads me to believe there's a bug in OneUI8. I've been working with Tech Support, but see no need in keeping the new watch when it's as much a paper weight as the old one.

So before I go through the return process and hopefully get my old watch back (I shouldn't have sent it in so fast), do any SWIMMERS have any ideas about anything I can try?

@TheRabbi Sorry, but if you've already sent your trade-in to Samsung, it is very unlikely that you can get it returned. But, if it fails the trade-in, you will get an option to have it returned, but otherwise it is gone.

I already know that. Worst case scenario, they give me a $250 promo code and I just re-buy the 2025 later. I wasn't asking for refund help, though.

I'm not a swimmer, so I'm just putting this out there. When your device updated, did any of your settings change that you did not notice? Such as length of swimmer stroke or swim style? As I said I'm not a swimmer, so I'm not aware of what settings you are using in the app for that purpose.

The watch auto-tracks stroke type, and it's always done a horrible job of that. But it's always been dead accurate on length counts.
To answer your question: No. No settings changes. It was the first thing I checked. I had even reset the 7 Ultra, and there was no change. I'm not going to bother trying a reset on the 2025 since it's fresh out of the box

I understand. Like I said, I've never used it but thought I'd ask just in case. Hope you find a solution for it.

That was a good suggestion. I think I've hit the more obvious stuff. Just wondering if other swimmers are seeing similar results, or have ideas I might be missing. If nothing else, this thread can maybe get a discussion going as others discover the issue.

One thing seems certain though: these watches aren't tracking actual distance or changes of direction in the pool. Seems to be easy to fool it with the right wrist motion; I just haven't found what that motion is so I can AVOID it. 😂

You should put in an error report, preferably within 3 hours after a swim.

Also, you said you rechecked your settings after the update, but did you check that the pool length hadn't changed to meters? I'm a swimmer, but not only have I not yet gotten the update, my pool has been closed for months. My distance has never been accurate, though, because no one knows the length of my pool and I just keep it at the shortest. I don't normally look at the lap count, because time and HR are the only metrics I really care about.

The pool size was the first thing I checked. It was at 25 yds.

I swim up to four miles at a time, so it's reassuring to have the watch keep accurate count so I don't have to track over 200 lengths; it always did that until OneUI8.

Like I said, I'm working with Tech Support on the issue. I'm getting logs within the hour. Hopefully, they realize I'm not swimming 25 yds in 8 seconds and 25 seconds the next. 😂

I've got exactly the same problem. 40 x 25 meter lengths counted as 66 on the 2025 Watch ultra. Never had this issue with previous Samsung watches or Apple watches. It's a bit rubbish for a watch that cost over £500 to be honest.  Be interesting to hear what the outcome of your discussions with tech support is
