This is driving me crazy. Before when wifi was on data would not be used and the data icon would disappear only to come back if wifi was on. Now I see even when wifi is on the darn data is still on. All my plans data has been already used and I haven't even left my house.

I've seen no place to fix this but turning days off completely which is a hassle because I have to be turning on and off every time I have or not wifi.

Anyone able to solve this?

My 5G indicator does NOT show unless I am actually connected to mobile data.  My cell bars show because I am connected to the mobile network, but 5G only shows when I am on 5G data.

Unplug your router and plug it back in to reset it. You can have Wi-Fi without being connected to the internet.

Have you looked at your intelligent wi-fi settings to make sure that "switch to mobile data" is not toggled on?  If it's on your data will flow through whichever connection your phone deems better/faster.  Go to settings > connections > wi-fi and click the 3 dots, then select intelligent wi-fi.  Also, make sure your mobile data is turned off in the quick panel unless you want to use it. You can make a routine to turn mobile data off when wi-fi is on, but these settings will be overridden by your intelligent wi-fi settings. You can create a second routine to turn wi-fi off when you are not connected to a network, such as when driving or in a specific place or time period, so that it will not interfere with  your using mobile data when you need to - or just manually turn mobile data and wi-fi on or off.

You can also set a data cap where your mobile data will just stop being used when it reaches the cap so you don't get charged for excess data.  I see by your screen shots that YouTube is using mobile data.  I believe there is a toggle in most streaming apps to select use wi-fi only.  Go through your apps and make sure that toggle is on, if it's available.

FWIW, I think your intelligent wi-fi settings is the culprit here.  That setting, I believe, is on by default and most people do not even know it exists so that those on limited data plans can turn it off.

I turn off intelligent wifi it still showing. What a crappy situation, happened all of the sudden and now it just doesn't go away. Making a routine to turn on/off shouldn't be the fix, that is just wrong. There should be a function that does that automatically like it has always been. Now I'm stuck using data even while on WiFi 😡

I believe it will still prioritize Wi-Fi if you're connected. Although you might want to turn on Wi-Fi Calling if your carrier supports it (most do), as that will force your phone to make calls over the Wi-Fi network when it's connected to one. I kind of like seeing my network strength and Wi-Fi signals at the same time, as that is how it shows on the iPhone, and I personally like that Samsung took a page out of Apple's book.
