Galaxy S25I found out my 3 month old Samsung S25 Ultra has corrosion on the charging port. I'm not even sure that it was exposed to water and yet it has green color in the port like a old rusted penny.
Anyone had any success dealing with this other than paying insurance premium? The customer service people have made it clear that this is NOT covered under warranty. I feel like I've been scammed; my S9, S22+ have both been exposed to water (S22+ took a swim in the ocean with me) and never had a corrosion issue! Why is my 3 month old phone having corrosion? Are they trying to drive me to Apple? So upset 😕

Galaxy S25Let’s break down what might be happening and what you can still do:
---
Why Is There Corrosion on a Practically New Samsung Flagship?
1. IP68 Doesn’t Mean Waterproof
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is rated IP68, which means it's resistant to fresh water, up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
But:
It doesn’t cover salt water, soapy water, humid air, steam, or chemical residue
Even a sweaty pocket or bathroom humidity can introduce moisture over time if the rubber seal around the charging port is imperfect
2. Green Corrosion = Copper Oxidation
That green color is copper oxide, which forms when copper inside the port is exposed to moisture and air. Even microscopic exposure is enough.
3. Manufacturing Variance
It’s entirely possible your device’s port seal wasn’t perfect out of the box. A bad batch of USB-C port assemblies or improperly seated gaskets can cause premature failure — and that should be treated as a defect.
---
Why Warranty Usually Doesn’t Cover It
Samsung’s limited warranty excludes liquid damage — even if the phone is IP68-rated. If they detect moisture corrosion during an inspection, they flag it as user damage. Unfortunately, this shifts the burden of proof onto the user — even when the corrosion may be due to poor manufacturing tolerances.
---
What You Can Do (Before Paying Insurance)
1. Escalate the Case With Samsung Support
Go to Samsung Members > Get Help > Error Reports
Clearly explain that:
The phone is only 3 months old
No direct water exposure occurred
You’ve owned other Galaxy models (S9, S22+) with heavier exposure and no issues
Politely but firmly request an escalated review or service exception
Mention that this could be an issue with port sealing or a defective USB-C module, which should be covered under warranty if no water submersion occurred.
2. Request In-Store Evaluation
Visit a Samsung Authorized Service Center
Ask for a written evaluation of the corrosion
If they suspect a manufacturing defect or incomplete assembly, they may flag it differently than customer care did over the phone
3. Document and Preserve the Condition
Take high-resolution photos of the port
Keep all communication logs, and ask for case reference numbers when you talk to Samsung support
---
Final Thoughts
You’re not being unreasonable. A flagship Samsung device should not show corrosion after light or no exposure — especially when previous models handled more and lasted longer.
The hope is that Samsung will step up and treat this as a potential quality control issue, not just liquid damage. Escalating through the Samsung Members app or Samsung's higher-tier support channels can sometimes result in a “one-time courtesy replacement” if you're persistent and respectful.
If you’d like help drafting a formal escalation message or want to start a post to gather others with the same issue, I can help with that too.
