To put it mildly, I'm very frustrated with the removal of the default music player option on my brand new Gakaxy S25 Ultra running Android 15. I have contacted support and even they tried to help me for days before realizing that your can no longer set your own default music player; for instance, like Spotify for example. Now, every single time I put in my galaxy buds, or every single time I get in my vehicle and Android auto starts, I have to manually pull my phone out and go in and change the music player over to Spotify. I can't begin to understand this foolishness. I can say though that it is extremely frustrating and I really hope that it will cause a great deal of requests by the masses to have it fixed.

You can download the Samsung Music Player from the Galaxy store, you can set Spotify as your default music player, or you can use any music player you want and set it as your default. You can add Spotify to the AA launcher screen so you don't have to pull out your phone to manually change players.  So many options.

So go into details then of how to set any music player you want to default. Like I mentioned before, I have already been I'm communication with Samsung support on this issue. They tried remotely many times to find a way and in the end they told me the option wasn't available. Samsung music player may be able to point to Spotify yes but it will not play or show any of your customized or liked lists. You can only select from canned existing music lists.

I don't use Samsung music player and in my car I use my downloaded music. I don't use spotify.

In AA you can go to the settings and edit the launcher panel. Settings/connected devices/Android Auto/customize launcher. Then make sure Spotify is checked, and a Spotify icon will appear under the map display. You can then tap the Spotify icon to switch to Spotify. No manual fiddling with your phone.  My vehicle also has it's own launcher for BT music and I can select Spotify (if I wanted) to play from the phone.

I will take a look at that when I get a chance. In my vehicles I have the map and player set to run by default, so I don't select anything. This all worked perfect until updating to my Galaxy S25 Ultra. Every website i have seen instructs you to go to Apps in settings and select Defaults option to set the music player you want, but none of that applies with my phone. Thank you for your input

I have the same problem and it's very frustrating. I used to be able to put the buds in and tap them to start playing music on SiriusXM. It worked perfectly on the S24. When I upgraded to the S25 it will only play from YouTube music. I hope Samsung fixes this so we can select the music we want to listen to again. This is ridiculous to take that option away from us.

I'm not sure what governs what exactly is default and why some programs automatically default without user intervention. I think it all has to do with the NOW bar since the player is always starting from that interface. In my case, I installed an app called Power Amp, and although I use it, I want my Liked list from Spotify to play by default. I can't find anything to fix it
