News opens on unlock

Idk why, but my new s25 ultra opens to the news, not my home screen! I hate it, doesn't even open the websites. How do I turn it off, uninstall it, whatever? Thanks! Spread kindness

Can you share a screenshot of what exactly you're seeing? The more info you provide about your issue, the more likely it is that another user can help you diagnose and solve it.

A few things to check:

☆ Check for carrier-installed apps

If your phone is locked to a carrier, be aware that some of their bundled apps can cause problems. For example, Metro Play (on Metro-locked devices) has recently been reported to replace users’ lock screens with its own ad-filled lock screen. If you’re experiencing strange behavior, make sure to review any apps tied to your carrier and see if the undesirable behavior can be turned off. Better yet, disable or uninstall the app altogether if possible.

☆ Check for routines

If apps/dialogs are opening unexpectedly or under strange conditions (such as when charging, certain times of day, or arriving at certain locations,) make sure you have not inadvertently set up a routine. Some users have reported that routines (Samsung’s automation feature) were accidentally enabled without their knowledge. Open Modes and Routines and check if something unusual is set up.


☆ Use Samsung’s Nice Catch app

Some apps are malicious and can have undesirable effects on your device when installed, knowingly or unknowingly. If you’re experiencing unexpected or unexplained ads, pop-ups, wake-ups, etc., Samsung’s Nice Catch app can help identify the offending app so that you can delete it.


Turn on the various categories in Nice Catch.

When the undesirable behavior happens again, check Nice Catch to see which app triggered it.

When i open my phone in the morning, there's a bar? At the bottom that says good morning. I have figured out that's what's opening the news. Problem is it doesn't open in a tab so idk the name of the app or whatever is doing it. Gosh I hope that made sense. Thanks for the nice catch

That is the now brief! That is a new feature of One UI 8 and the S25 series. If you don't like it, you can turn it off in Settings > Lock screen & AOD > Now Bar

You can get rid of the 'News' panel so it will never show. Long press on one of your home screens, and then hit Settings. Then, make sure 'Add media page to home screen' is toggled off (should be gray). I believe it comes on by default, but by turning it off, it will never show on your home screen.
