This morning my Samsung Galaxy s25 automatically updated to UI 8.0, right now seems like my side button cannot mute my phone only can turn on the volume or vibration

Anybody has the same issue and why it's like this?

Did anyone find a solution to this?!? It is so annoying and aggravating I can't mute with with the volume buttons anymore and absolutely hate it!

I sucked it up and added the mute button to my home screen.  ๐Ÿ˜ž

This is a very stupid move, to remove an amazing feature that worked great for years. Why do I need to workaround that??? On my S23 Ultra, they downgraded my always-on display by removing customization. Then removed other features. And now this, not being able to mute everything and turn off the vibration with a tap? Like I get a downgrade with every update... Think about switching my phone from Samsung to something better.... Apple doesn't seem that bad as a company anymore, since Samsung doesn't care about its customers

It is strange to take away the ease of a feature like mute. It might be some strange safety feature like how samsungs in korea cannot take pictures without making a sound. Because making it not quickly accessible is just strange.

To everyone saying that vibrate is just as good as silent: no it's not.

(1) Not everyone's brain works like yours. Many get derailed and lose their train of thought when that buzz goes off. I'll be in the middle of trying to solve a problem or reading something that's complex and BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. No. NOOO. Make it go away. Fast. Without clicking a bunch of menus which is also going to make me lose my train of thought even more.

(2) I don't have time to be fiddling around with routines and extra software. No, I don't have any extra customizations (other than my custom icons). I don't have any routines. Not even the sleep routine, because my life is not routine-centric. I don't have a 9-5 and my sleep schedule changes week-to-week.

I didn't come to Samsung/Android for all of those customizations. Samsung has more to offer than that: their long history of exceptional mobile health features is a big one.

(3) Mute is a volume function. Put it on the volume buttons like every other UI since the invention of records where you simply take the needle off of the record with one, singular motion.

(4) Sound and vibration are not functions everyone needs on the majority of the time. The light that turns on briefly is enough to know something happened --and even then I turn my phone over (again, with one, singular motion) if I need to 'mute' that, too.

The only reason sound ever goes on for me is when I have a scheduled call or waiting for a callback in a certain timeframe. And no, I don't successfully turn it all back off successfully afterwards, because these scheduled calls happen once a month or less, so I don't exactly have any type of habit to turn the sound back off. Also, my brain has already moved onto the next thing after hanging up --maybe next 5 things and going through 4 menus to get the mute button isn't one of them.

(5) There is no feedback button on this site for the user who pointed us to that. Companies know they need to keep an eye on user forums --pressing 'feedback' goes into a void that users are not able to track as a group sharing similar experiences.

(6) Some of us are scatterbrains, lose our train of thought, have a working memory disability, or other different ways of working than some of your tidy brains.

This is an accessibility issue.

Short version:
Mute with 1 motion in a place where rapid volume control already exists is a part of several fundamental user-interaction design principles for a reason.

"Yeah, it's so weird. Why did they get rid of this basic need? I don't get it. I seriously don't get it. Why is it so important that they need to get rid of it..."

Still an issue on my S23+! This really stinks! Now my wife's phone just had an update and she cannot mute hers either. Any more info?
