The Samsung Galaxy S25 with One UI 7 abandoned the corner edge swipe to activate assistant. Instead now opting to use the power button as the only means to activate assistant. This was a terrible choice. I'm confident I am not the only one who doesn't want to use the power button to activate the assistant and be forced to hold in the power and volume down to turn their devices off. Samsung bring back the option to edge swipe for assistant in the display navigation menu. This should never have been removed.

Making edit so this post can be seen again:

The solution to power off device via the optional quick settings panel is not relevant. In fact, it completely negates the point of the physical buttons on S25 series. If people want to use the power button as the assistant toggle, that's great! However, not everyone wants to. Nor do people want to use the on screen power button option.

Please do not suggest the on screen power button as a solution, because it 100% is not.

The solution for this issue is for Samsung to reintegrate the corner swipe to engage Gemini assistant. It's all about giving the users options to interact with the device however they want. Not being arbitrarily limited.

Please upvote this post so Samsung software engineers will see it. Thank you!

Hi, I have the S25 Ultra, I'm still able to long press on bottom of the screen and my assistant comes on, I can also access Gemini by saying OK Google, and the Gemini pops up and listens for my command.
Also, you can change the side button to power off..
Go to settings..
Advanced settings
Side key
Select the long press option
Power off

I've enclosed some photos for you, hopefully this was what you we're referring to. I hope it helps have a great rest of your day! 😊1739105022253.jpg1739105022265.jpg1739105022273.jpg1739105022279.jpg

@Faith7777 Please understand, the post is not directed to side key power off. Galaxy users are aware they can change side key to power from assistant activation. This post is targeting edge swipe, allowing users to use the power button as default power instead of activating the assistant.

I guess I don't understand what you're saying, I'm not saying to use your assistant to power off your phone I'm saying that I press my side key and the power menu pops up and I can power it off that way. I was only trying to help so I'm sorry if I misunderstood. I still don't understand what you're saying in your follow-up

After re-reading the OP's original post, I think what they are trying to say is that they don't like the either/or option for the button to be either the assistant or power off.  It appears one can either use the side button to either activate the assistant or for the power off function, not both. And, apparently, one can no longer swipe down from the corner to activate the assistant (I didn't even know this was a thing, since I don't use the assistant).  It may be different on the new UI, but I can activate the assistant (or Gemini) by long pressing the "home" button on the nav bar. At some point I had to the choice to either choose to activate the assistant or use circle to search.  I chose circle to search.

Please leave power off button as it is or make it an option. 🙏

Since my original post is not clear please be advised:

On the S25 series One UI 7; the option to use edge swipe is no longer possible as it is on previous Samsung devices. If you own S24, for example. Go into the display option, under navigation bar and you'll see an option for, swipe to open assistant app. I am asking Samsung to give S25 users this option back.

This is not circle to search! That is completely different.

Currently on the S25 series. You have options to use the physical power button long press for either, Google Gemini, Bixby, or Power menu. If you use your power button for the power menu. There is currently no way to activate Google Assistant without using the Gemini app icon or Google search bar. Additionally, if you use the power button for Bixby or Gemini, you're forced to use the on screen power button or the volume down+power to turn your device off.

The solution as stated is for Samsung to give S25 users the edge swipe to activate the assistant back

I hope this better explains and helps more people understand.
