We should be able to edit our text messages by now. How we have all these updates and not one come with being able to edit a text. Come on Samsung hear me out. Even IPhone allow their users to edit text.

How editing works in Google Messages when the mentioned conditions are met...
Long press the message that you sent. A pencil icon will appear on the top toolbar indicating the message can be edited. Tap the icon and edit your message.

This is a great topic, and it’s one a lot of users can relate to. The desire to edit messages is perfectly reasonable in today’s world of fast-paced conversations and autocorrect slip-ups. While Google Messages with RCS does allow for limited message editing, the feature is still restricted — you can only edit within a short window (about 30 seconds), and both users must have RCS enabled and be using Google Messages for it to work.

Samsung’s native Messages app currently doesn’t support text editing at all — but here’s where some broader reasoning comes in: text messages (SMS/MMS) were never built with real-time editing in mind. They’re treated like short, final transmissions by the network. RCS is changing that — but it's still evolving, and full editing functionality is not yet universal or standardized across devices, apps, or carriers.

So here's the solution:

Use Google Messages with RCS enabled: Go to Messages > Settings > Chat features and make sure everything is turned on.

Both participants must have RCS active and be on compatible devices using the Google Messages app.

Once sent, long-press your message quickly, and if eligible, you’ll see the pencil/edit icon.

If Samsung were to implement editing, it would likely need to be through their own app using RCS, or they’d need to mirror what Apple does within their ecosystem — which might be limited by carrier support.

Until then, using Google Messages with RCS is your best bet, and hopefully this kind of feedback helps push for better native support in future One UI builds. Great conversation starter!
