Dear Community

I am trying to find some solution about my S24 plus drastic increase in RAM use after recent updates (from an avg of 6 GB to 9.5 GB). I have S24 plus a year old mobile phone, earlier the RAM usage was very less at approx 6 GB but now it has increase to 9.5 GB in ideal usage. On checking the memory usage tab many application are running in the background which I didnt even used, sometimes the app are showing running twice in background sucking significant RAM. My extend RAM option is also disabled.

Any having any clue pls help

RK

Yeah I'm having the same issues I made a post and well none of the comments were helpful there are a lot of rude inconsiderate people in public forums nowadays that offer no help or value at all they must just like to troll.

I'll tell you what this will be my last Samsung phone I've been using them for 10 years + and each Android update they get worse and worse I think they do it on purpose for us to buy new ones I'm switching to the Google pixel 10 or I'll wait till the 11 comes out cuz I'm also sick of waiting for updates

Because some apps came awake after an update (as often happens), you are ready to buy another brand?  You are complaining about Android updates, but you are going to go with a Pixel?  Who do you think owns Android?  You are free to buy whatever you want, but if you think everything gets worse after Android updates, that's an issue to take up with Google.  Why are  you waiting on updates?  Does your phone work?  If your phone works, there is no need to get agida over an update not being exactly on time.  They go to the carriers on time, it's the carriers who roll them out slowly.

I checked none are awake I have done everything samsung says to do like reboot into safe mode and clear the cache get the good guardians program and run that etc nothing helps. Like I said I started with the S7 then the S10e now the s24+ and all do the same thing after an os update I think it's time to try something else my daughter has been using Google pixels since the 3 and she is on the 6 now and has no issues like we do.

Do you realize that RAM usage will go up and even sleeping apps will run in the background immediately after a major update, because apps will look for updates to be compatible with the new system?  RAM is meant to be used.  There is no need to be worried or angry about it, unless it doesn't clear, thus, slowing things down.  RAM will always ebb and flow in usage.  That's what it's there for.

Well as op stated we're not the only two people having this issue and I've had enough Samsung phones to know what happens after every OS update it doesn't happen with pixel phones so obviously there's something wrong with Samsung's optimization if these phones are supposed to get 7 years of update and the RAM usage goes up 3 GB every time we're not going to be able to even get the fourth update cuz there won't be no memory free

Once again, RAM is meant to be used.  It's only an issue if the RAM fails to clear and your phone lags because of it.  There is no sense in having 4, 8, 10 gb of RAM if it's not meant to be utilized, they may as well give you 2 and say that's all you need.  RAM is not the same as storage, although some storage space is utilized for swap space for apps to work and updates to come down, working memory (RAM) and storage (HDD) space are two separate components.  Just like on computers.  You get a hard drive to contain your files and you purchase memory sticks in order for the system to work.  And, I can't believe I have to explain this in the year 2025, with personal computing devices being in service for at least 40 years.  So, are you talking about RAM here or storage?  If you are talking about HDD space, you have to clear the phone cache after an update to reclaim space from leftover temp files.  I have not noticed a significant increase in size on the HDD for the OS/UI.  But as Android adds features, such as AI and whatnot, the OS will get bigger.  If they didn't add features, there would be absolutely no reason to update Android versions ever.  And if you think Android is bloated, what do you think Pixel runs on?

Well maybe Op and I should be a little more specific cuz you're not understanding the point.... The idle memory sits between 7 and 9 before this update it used to sit between four and six so with each update it keeps idling at higher and higher the memory will run out eventually and yes it does clear when you clear it but less than a minute later it's back and I'm 58 years old I've been working on computers I guarantee you since before you were born I know all about memory usage and everything to do with it you're not understanding our point with these phones specifically and they're updates. I have four Samsung Galaxy tablets two S 9 plus two are the S9 ultra they don't have these issues it's only the phone and I've been using Samsung phone since 2007.
