Video call from contacts within the phone app

What if we could video call from our contacts in the phone app?

This is already possible from the contacts in the phone app using Google Meet.

You can also do a video call from Google Messages!

Not only is this already available on phone if you install Google Meet, but if you get your Iphones friends and family to install Google Meet on their Iphones, you can have video calls with them too!

Therein lies the challenge. Getting iPhone users to use anything other than FaceTime is like pulling teeth in my experience.

It's unbelievable with them!

My friends and family don't have a problem with it, yay for me!

They have given up trying to get me to switch!

You would have to pry an Andoid phone out of cold dead hands, to do it!

I spent close to 10 years in the walled garden, so I get it.

Apple makes their proprietary services dang good iPhone-to-iPhone and then they make it a pain in the rear to use anything other than those services.

They have been making it intentionally inconvenient to communicate with non-iPhones for years!

EU is think about going after the green, blue bubble thing too.
Something about right of privacy, the other end shouldn't know what your preferred OS is.

I think it's mostly because the "i" ecosystem is computing/communicating for dummies.  They are not used to tinkering with their devices and installing anything not native to the device, and not interested in learning how to use a new app. Yes, this is  a generalization, but there is a reason people buy Apple.

Idk, maybe in some cases, but even non-tech-savvy people are generally capable of installing apps and using them.

It really comes down to continuity with Apple products. FaceTime just works better than third party options on Apple devices, and it's more convenient because it's integrated into the dialer. Same thing with iMessage.

The platform preferences aren't unwarranted, it's just a pain that they are intentionally not cross-platform compatible.
