I accidentally sent a text to one of my contacts land line and now anytime I use my edge panel to message them that thread comes up and not the Google messages thread in which I normally communicate with them.
Any help or input on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Delete the thread.

No luck. I deleted the thread and when I try to send a text to that contact from the edge panel it brings up the land line thread I accidentally started. It's like that's the default thread starting it new. I have a conversation with that contact, but that's not the thread the edge panel brings up

Try editing the contact and deleting the landline number temporarily. Do it from the conversation detail. Open the detail view and scroll down to where it lists the participant's name and number. Tap the 3 dots and select edit contact. Make sure the mobile number is tagged as mobile and then either remove the landline number, or make sure it's not tagged as mobile as well. If it's tagged as mobile, give it a different label, such as "home".

First off, thanks for your help. Now from the side panel, selecting text contact is fine, but selecting call option defaults to mobile

I have deleted the text and cleared the cache. But when I try to send a text from that side panel contact, same thing. It brings up a blank thread. I checked the details of the thread and it's the land line number

I think the direct call edge defaults to the first number entered for a contact. Does it really matter if you call the cell or landline? You can always see what happens if you put the home number first in the contact and then the mobile. Personally, I'd leave well enough alone and just go to the contact list directly if I wanted to call the landline.

Thank you for the reply. I have the contact as suggested. Landline first, mobile second. I was just trying to get it back to where it was before my error of texting the landline. Edge panel was just more convenient to get a quick call dialed to the landline. Mom doesn't always pick up the mobile 😅

Yeah, my mom couldn't hear the mobile in her purse and she didn't keep it out of the purse if she was at home. And this was pre-smart phone.

You could always try deleting the contact entirely and recreating it from scratch.

However, when creating a contact, you will notice that the default label for the phone number is "mobile" unless you change the label.  So, if you never changed the label from mobile for the primary number (landline), that may be why the edge panel thought it was a mobile number.  Change the landline to be labeled not mobile and keep the mobile numbers as mobile.  The direct dial edge does default to the mobile number.  So, if you have a contact with multiple mobile numbers, the number that appears first will be the one on the edge panel.

If you want your mom's landline on the direct dial, I suggest creating a second contact for mom (call it momhome if you want, as long as it's different from the first one) and add that to the edge panel. Then send your texts to "mom" and your calls to "momhome" except when you want to call mom's cell.
