Candid Feedback

Dear Samsung,

Google has just released Android 16 Dev Preview 2, and you're still stuck on Android 15 Beta Preview development for the S24? Not trying to be harsh, but this is extremely disappointing. Samsung, you've had how many months now? ā€œOh, we're just behind!ā€

Google released the first Dev Preview for Android 15 in February 2024, this is when they gave you the Android 15 codebase. You're not going to have Android 15 (OneUI 7) done and released on all supported Samsung phones until February 2025! One year later? Are you **bleep**g kidding me?

And you're claiming that you'll provide 7 years of updates? I have no confidence that will happen.

Before anyone thinks I'm being too harsh or that Samsung has a tough job, let's consider this: Since Android 11, Google has designed Dynamic System Updates, Generic System Images, Generic Kernel Images, and Project Treble to make it as easy as possible for manufacturers to release updates without having to change or fix a lot.

Anyone with an unlocked bootloader, on any phone, can sideload DSUs and GSIs and boot up a new image on almost any phone since Android 11!

Since the dawn of Android, I've always been horrified at the level of disregard manufacturers have for releasing timely updates. It's not that hard!

I love how brash you are. I'm disappointed I wanted in on the beta. It makes me sad actually. The beta looks really slick and nice to looks at.

You have the S24? You can. I won't share the link here, but just type in to Google ā€œS24 Beta 2 Thread XDAā€ and it's the first link. Anyone can install it, it's safe, and it's not very hard to do. Once it's installed, I believe that automatically enrolls you for further updates.

The first link jumps you to a page other than Page 1, so select 1 at the top and read the instructions. Trust me, it's easy and safe to do.

Huh, um what? Samsung uses Android for their OS. Post is about how easy Google makes it for manufacturers to release timely Android updates. I understand that Samsung modifies the OS and puts layers on top, but it's not that hard. It really isn't.

I'm not sure what the he ll you're trying to say, but Samsung uses Android OS on Samsung phones. OneUI is still Android bro.

I don't understand your point. Google created Android OS, yes, and they release it open-source. Thousands of other contributors have contributed to the AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Samsung uses Android OS and adds OneUI layer on top of it. My post is about how easy Google makes it for manufacturers, like Samsung, to provide timely Android updates. Google released the first Dev Preview (with source to manufacturers) in Feb 2024. Samsung states they won't be finished releasing Android 15 update to all Samsung phones until Feb 2025. Google just released Android 16 Dev Preview 2. Samsung is so far behind now.

Lol. I'm very well aware that Google and Samsung are separate companies. Samsung uses Android OS. This post is about my disappointment towards Samsung and their lack of timely development on THEIR software. Samsung controls development for One UI 7 - which is based on Android 15. Android 16 is now ready for manufacturers to start development on. This post is NOT about Google. All of my points are valid. You're very confused bro.

Yeah ok man, I don't know what your issue is, or if this is a language barrier problem, but I'm fully aware that Google and Samsung are distinct and separate companies. There was never any confusion there. I know Google develops Android, and Samsung, like other manufacturers, take the Android AOSP code, and they build upon this code to release their own updates. I know all of this.

My post is about only about Samsung and my disappointment about their untimely development on the Android 15 codebase, which Google gave them in Feb 2024. Now Google has given manufacturers Android 16 Dev 2 codebase. To me, I'm extremely disappointed.

Itā€™s apparent that youā€™re more interested in arguing than having a productive discussion. The purpose of this thread is to share feedback with Samsung and foster community dialogue. You are not obligated to participate, nor do you have to agree with my viewpoints. However, please refrain from implying that I don't understand the difference between Android, Samsung, and Google. Thatā€™s simply not the case. While you donā€™t have to agree with my opinions, I would appreciate it if you could stop with these baseless assertions!

I don't think you actually read my post, or English isn't your native language. You're definitely misunderstanding my post. My post is about Samsung and their SLOW development on OneU7, which is using the Android 15 codebase. Google gave Samsung the Android 15 codebase in Feb 2024. 10 months ago.

If you don't understand this, then I think that you don't understand that OneUI7 is based on Android 15. Perhaps you don't understand that?
